Nikola Corporation has announced the opening of its inaugural HYLA hydrogen refueling station in Southern California. This development underscores Nikola’s ambition to spearhead the transition to zero-emissions transportation through the establishment of a comprehensive hydrogen refueling network.
Positioned at 2445 East Guasti Road, the Ontario station showcases an advanced modular fueler capable of servicing up to 40 Class 8 trucks daily. This station marks the beginning of Nikola’s strategic deployment of up to 60 hydrogen refueling stations across key locations, aimed at facilitating the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks.
Nikola’s President of Energy, Ole Hoefelmann, emphasized the company’s commitment, stating, “We are thrilled to open the first HYLA hydrogen refueling station in Southern Calif., marking a significant milestone for Nikola and offering convenient access for our customers.” He further highlighted the company’s objective to ease the transition to a zero-emission future by prioritizing access to a hydrogen solution network.
The Ontario station is part of a broader plan, with Nikola aiming to establish nine stations by the end of the second quarter of 2024. These efforts are expected to culminate in one of the world’s largest heavy-duty hydrogen refueling networks, significantly enhancing accessibility for customers.
To ensure a seamless refueling experience, Nikola has introduced 24/7 support at the Ontario station, featuring on-site HYLA Ambassadors and Operation Technicians. This initiative demonstrates Nikola’s dedication to customer service and operational efficiency.
In addition to developing its network, Nikola is collaborating with industry leaders to secure a robust hydrogen supply chain and refueling infrastructure. This includes a 10-year agreement with FirstElement Fuel to establish a hydrogen refueling station in Oakland, California, further expanding the available refueling options for Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles and other Class 8 customers.
