Nuvve, a global leader in Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, has joined the EVVE project to accelerate the rollout of bidirectional charging stations across Europe. The project, led by EDF Group and Dreev, aims to deploy 800 V2G charging stations, helping to reduce CO2 emissions through electric vehicle energy storage. Nuvve will bring its V2G expertise to countries like Denmark, France, and Spain, positioning itself as a key player in this European initiative.
Key Highlights:
- Nuvve to install approximately 100 V2G charging stations as part of the EVVE project.
- The EVVE project aims to deploy 800 bidirectional charging stations across Europe.
- The project focuses on utilizing Combo CCS European charging standard for V2G capabilities.
- Nuvve brings over eight years of V2G experience, including the world’s first commercial V2G service.
The EVVE project, launched in 2021, is an innovative effort to utilize electric vehicles for storing low-carbon electricity, paving the way for new V2G functionalities with the Combo CCS standard. Nuvve, a pioneer in this field, will contribute by installing 100 charging stations, representing a $400,000 investment and adding another megawatt to its managed capacity.
According to Xavier Moreau, EVP of Strategy at Nuvve, “Nuvve’s focus is to deploy its V2G technology to help Europe as it prepares to scale its power system.” The EVVE project is one of the first to use the Combo CCS standard for V2G, enabling aggregate pools of electric vehicles to serve as valuable resources for grid operators managing decarbonized energy sources.
The consortium includes major partners such as Stellantis, Volkswagen Group France, and BNP Paribas Mobility, collectively working to deploy bidirectional charging points throughout Europe. Supported by the European Union’s Innovation Fund, the project aims to be a catalyst for V2G industrialization, creating opportunities for EV manufacturers and stakeholders in the V2G value chain.
The collaboration also allows for testing cutting-edge V2G technology and evaluating its benefits for fleet operators and other stakeholders, contributing to a more flexible and sustainable energy system. So far, 250 V2G chargers have already been deployed, primarily in France and Denmark, demonstrating ongoing progress towards the project’s goals.
