Porsche Cars North America, Inc. has initiated a recall for specific 2024-2025 Macan Electric vehicles due to a rearview camera malfunction. This defect may cause the camera to display a blurry image or fail to show an image entirely when reverse gear is engaged, impacting 8,571 vehicles. The issue violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility,” prompting Porsche to take action to ensure driver safety by restoring proper camera functionality.
Key Highlights
- Recall Announcement: Porsche recalls 2024-2025 Macan Electric models.
- Issue: Rearview camera may show blurry or no image.
- Affected Vehicles: 8,571 units impacted.
- Safety Risk: Reduced visibility increases crash potential.

The root cause involves a software glitch in the parking system that hinders the rearview camera from activating properly from standby mode. In some cases, poor bonding of the camera housing allows moisture to seep in, further degrading image quality. Porsche dealers will address this by updating the control unit software and inspecting the camera, replacing it if necessary, at no cost to owners.
Owners will receive notification letters starting June 6, 2025. For further assistance, they can contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243, referencing recall number ASA3, or reach the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Porsche has already implemented fixes in production, with optimized software introduced on March 25, 2025, and improved camera bonding processes effective from November 6, 2024. This recall underscores Porsche’s commitment to safety, ensuring that Macan Electric drivers have reliable rear visibility to prevent accidents and comply with federal regulations.
