Ram ProMaster EV Recalled For Power Loss

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 790 Ram ProMaster electric vans from model years 2024-2025. A software defect can cause a sudden loss of propulsion, increasing crash risk.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has issued a safety recall for certain 2024-2025 Ram ProMaster electric vans due to a software issue that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power. The recall, identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as 25V665, affects a total of 790 vehicles. The problem stems from software that may not effectively limit dynamic torque spikes, potentially damaging the vehicle’s differential housing.

Key Highlights

  • Affected Vehicles: The recall impacts 790 units of the 2024-2025 RAM ProMaster Battery Electric Vehicle (“BEV”).
  • The Defect: Motor Control Processor (“MCP”) software may not properly limit dynamic torque spikes. This can damage the differential housing, resulting in a Loss of Propulsion (“LOP”).
  • Safety Risk: An unexpected LOP can increase the risk of a vehicle crash without any prior warning.
  • The Remedy: FCA US LLC will conduct a voluntary safety recall to reprogram the MCP and other control modules. Dealers will also inspect and, if necessary, replace the Electric Drive Module (“EDM”).
  • Owner Notification: Dealers are scheduled to be notified on October 16, 2025 , with owner notification letters expected to be mailed starting October 30, 2025.

Recall Details

The defect is present in Ram ProMaster BEVs manufactured between August 31, 2023, and July 17, 2025. According to the report, the vehicles were built with MCP software that does not effectively limit dynamic torque spikes. This can cause damage to the differential housing, leading to a loss of power while driving. The manufacturer estimates that 100% of the recalled vehicles have the defect. Vehicles not included in the recall were either built after the suspect period or received the correct software before leaving the plant. The affected Electric Drive Module component is supplied by Jing-Jin Electric North America LLC.

Safety Risk and Defect Chronology

The primary safety risk is that an unexpected loss of propulsion can lead to a vehicle crash without warning. There are no warning signs before the failure occurs.

The investigation began on March 14, 2025, after a plant alert in Europe identified broken differential housings on similar Fiat Ducato vehicles. FCA US opened its investigation on September 17, 2025, focusing on the ProMaster vans. As of September 24, 2025, FCA US was not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue , but it had received two potentially related field reports. On October 2, 2025, the company’s Vehicle Regulations Committee determined that a safety defect exists.

Remedy and Notification Plan

To resolve the issue, FCA US will notify owners and dealers to bring their vehicles in for service. The remedy involves a multi-part software and hardware solution. Dealers will reprogram the Motor Control Processor (MCP), Battery Processor Control Module (BPCM), Integrated Dual Charge Module (IDCM), and the Electric Vehicle Control Unit (eVCU). Additionally, technicians will inspect the Electric Drive Module (EDM) and replace it if necessary. All repairs will be provided free of charge.

Dealers will be notified of the recall on or about October 16, 2025. Owners of the affected vehicles can expect to receive notification letters starting around October 30, 2025. Chrysler’s internal number for this recall is 98C.
