Goodwood, West Sussex – Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced that its all-electric super coupé, Spectre, is undergoing extreme hot weather tests in South Africa. The testing process, which has already surpassed any previous testing program in the marque’s 118-year history, will help the technical experts achieve the exacting levels of ride refinement that are central to the Rolls-Royce experience. The company’s Director of Engineering, Dr. Mihiar Ayoubi, says that the reason for the extensive testing is that there has never been a motor car like Spectre before.
The current phase of testing is focused on observing and refining every system, hardware item, and software protocol that has been developed thus far. The refinements being made to the prototypes follow the principles of ‘marginal gains’, in which individual, small adjustments cumulatively produce a significant overall improvement. The attention to detail in Spectre’s testing is unprecedented, with examples including over 1500 hours dedicated to finessing the car’s regenerative braking, anti-roll stabilization, and cabin illumination.
During the testing process, each of the motor car’s 25,000 separate performance-related functions have been meticulously tailored to deliver the Rolls-Royce experience. As the car approaches the later phases of its testing, further adjustments will be made to sealing materials to deliver the marque’s aero-acoustic performance.
The Spectre is the first all-electric Rolls-Royce and represents the future direction of the brand. It is the fulfillment of the company’s promise to inspire greatness in everything they do, and elevate the automotive experience to unparalleled heights. The CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, says that the Spectre represents the beginning of the marque’s bold electric era and their technological leadership of the super-luxury space.
