Iveco Group’s IVECO BUS has secured its most significant electric bus contract in Italy, agreeing to supply over 400 battery electric buses to Rome’s ATAC S.p.A., the city’s public transport company. This landmark deal, valued at over 300 million euros, marks a major step in ATAC’s strategy for sustainable, efficient, and accessible mobility.
The contract includes the provision of electric buses, measuring 12 or 18 metres, and encompasses a comprehensive 10-year full-service maintenance plan for each vehicle. With the first deliveries anticipated by the end of 2024, and completion by mid-2026, this investment underscores Rome’s commitment to eco-friendly transportation, relying on the company as a key provider.
Domenico Nucera, President of the Bus Business Unit at Iveco Group, expressed pride in contributing to Rome’s shift towards greener mobility. “Our increasingly strong offering in the field of electric passenger transport is being recognised across the entire Italian market, and internationally as well, confirming our position as a leading partner,” Nucera said. He added, “Extending this to the capital of Italy, the ‘Eternal City’, is a fitting way to begin 2024.”
