SPAN Ships First Deliveries of Drive Electric Vehicle Charger, Enabling Fast Home Charging Without a Costly Service Upgrade

SPAN Drive EV charger pairs with the SPAN smart electrical panel to dynamically charge homeowners’ electric vehicles while managing their home electrical load

SAN FRANCISCO – SPAN, the leading innovator in smart home electrical panels, announced today it has begun commercial manufacturing, sales and shipments of its newest product, the SPAN Drive electric vehicle charging station, the only EV charger that integrates intelligently with the rest of the home energy system.

SPAN Drive charges at a maximum power of 11.52 kilowatts, is compatible with all EVs, and is available in all 50 states. It can charge at the maximum speed (typically 48 amps for most EVs in a home) or intelligently reduce charging speed based on power usage in the rest of the house. This unique feature, Charge Dynamically, can help millions of homeowners experience the fastest at-home EV charging even if they have less than 200 amp service from their electric utility. Without SPAN Drive, the homeowner would have to upgrade their utility electrical service, which may take months to schedule and cost thousands of dollars. SPAN Drive owners who have solar panels will soon be able to use SPAN Drive to charge directly from their rooftop solar and “Charge with Sunshine.” In the near future, SPAN Drive will also enable SPAN customers who have battery backup power to charge their vehicle during a power outage. These features will be provided via over-the-air updates sent directly to customers’ devices.

SPAN Ships First Deliveries of Drive Electric Vehicle Charger, Enabling Fast Home Charging Without a Costly Service Upgrade

“We’ve been receiving a lot of calls and pre-orders since announcing the SPAN Drive smart EV charger last October, and we’re really pleased to be able to ship SPAN Drive to our customers across the U.S.,” said SPAN Founder and CEO Arch Rao. “With more consumers installing solar and batteries, and purchasing electric vehicles, we see SPAN Panel and Drive as the perfect pairing to electrify your home. Our teams are already working on new software features for the SPAN Panel and Drive to be sent over the air.”

“Unlike other Level 2 EV chargers that can’t directly integrate with your solar energy system, or backup power system, the SPAN Drive charger is easy to install and connect to your home energy system, giving you the ability to power your vehicle using your own solar energy,” said Mohammed Abdalla, Founder and CEO of Good Faith Energy, a solar provider based in the Dallas area.

Homeowners can purchase SPAN Panel and SPAN Drive from their local solar installer, local electrician, or via the SPAN website at www.span.io. SPAN Drive is sold as an accessory to SPAN Panel and is not currently supported as a standalone charger. Eligible homeowners may now have access to thousands of dollars in rebates and tax credits as part of the Inflation Reduction Act when purchasing an EV, a SPAN Panel, a SPAN Drive EV charger, rooftop solar panels, home batteries and other home electrification and energy efficient smart home products. Incentives for SPAN products range from 30 percent of installed costs, with tax credits ranging from $600 to $2,500, or up to $6,500 as a rebate for low-to-moderate income (LMI) households.
