Stellantis N.V. announced the launch of its innovative STLA Large platform, a BEV-native foundation designed to transform the future of electric vehicles. This platform, central to the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, represents a significant step towards electrification, showcasing exceptional capabilities such as embedded energy (118 kWh) and charging efficiency (4.5 kWh per minute).
The STLA Large platform stands out in the industry with its remarkable 800 km/500 mile range. It offers unmatched flexibility, supporting various vehicle types including cars, crossovers, and SUVs in the D and E segments. The platform will be utilized in eight vehicle launches across five brands, including Dodge and Jeep®, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and Maserati, from 2024-2026.
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares emphasized the ambitious nature of the STLA platforms: “Creating a family of vehicles from a well-engineered set of components that is flexible enough to cover multiple vehicle types and propulsions, overperforming any of our current products, will address each of our iconic brands’ customers.”
The platform’s versatility extends to its engineering and technology, allowing for adjustments in dimensions and the use of various suspension modules and powertrain cradles. This flexibility facilitates the creation of vehicles tailored to specific performance objectives, enhancing both comfort and handling.
A key aspect of the STLA Large platform is its propulsion systems. Designed as a BEV-native platform, it supports both 400-volt and 800-volt electric architectures. Engineers can upgrade propulsion system performance over the vehicle’s lifespan through over-the-air software updates.
In terms of energy storage, the platform initially includes battery pack options ranging from 85 to 118 kilowatt-hours (kWh), targeting an overall range of 800 km/500 miles for sedans. It also supports hybrid and internal combustion propulsion systems, offering a versatile bridge during the transition to electric propulsion.
The STLA Large platform is part of Stellantis’ broader strategy, encompassing four global BEV platforms – Small, Medium, Large, and Frame. These platforms are designed for extended lifecycles and support the company’s next-generation electrical and software-defined vehicle technologies.
In line with its commitment to electrification, Stellantis is investing over €50 billion in the next decade. This investment aims to achieve a 100% passenger car BEV sales mix in Europe and 50% in the United States by 2030. Stellantis’ ambitious plan includes launching 48 BEVs by 2024 and becoming a carbon net zero corporation by 2038.
