Kempower Completes First MCS Charging Session in North America

Kempower completed the first MCS charging session in North America at EV Realty's San Bernardino hub, delivering up to 1.2 MW ahead of the site's April 2026 opening.

Kempower, Windrose, and EV Realty have completed the first Megawatt Charging System (MCS) session using Kempower hardware in North America. The charge took place at EV Realty’s San Bernardino, California charging hub, which is expected to open in April 2026. The milestone moves MCS closer to commercial availability for fleet and charge point operators across the continent.

Highlights

  • Kempower’s Mega Satellite MCS dispensers delivered the first successful MCS charging session in North America at EV Realty’s San Bernardino hub.
  • The site features a 1,200 kW Kempower Power Unit connected to two dispensers capable of up to 1.2 MW and 1,500 A of continuous output.
  • MCS technology enables charging speeds above 1 MW, targeting heavy-duty electric trucks with growing manufacturer adoption globally.
  • The San Bernardino hub is scheduled to open in April 2026.

What MCS Means for Heavy-Duty Fleets

MCS is the emerging standard for charging at power levels above 1 MW. It offers faster charging speeds, stronger cross-manufacturer standardization, and greater operational flexibility. As heavy-duty truck OEMs increasingly build MCS into new models, demand for compatible infrastructure is expected to grow.

Suncheth Bhat, Chief Commercial Officer at EV Realty, said fleets are eager for MCS-capable trucks but need clarity on charging availability. “We are building sites that can serve any heavy-duty truck, including those utilizing MCS,” Bhat said. “This test confirms that we will be ready for real-world MCS charging when the trucks hit the road later this year.”

Site Specifications

The San Bernardino hub pairs a 1,200 kW Kempower Power Unit with two Mega Satellite MCS dispensers. Key specs include:

  • Maximum output: 1.2 MW
  • Maximum current: 1,500 A continuous
  • Cable technology: Liquid-cooled for sustained high-power delivery

The system is designed to support efficient turnaround times for heavy-duty electric fleets operating along major freight corridors.

Kempower’s Broader MCS Momentum

Kempower VP of Markets and Products Jed Routh called the session a significant step for heavy-duty charging in North America. He noted the collaboration with EV Realty positions Kempower’s charging solutions to support continued electrification of heavy-duty transport in the region.

Additionally, Kempower has spent the past six months piloting and deploying MCS alongside partners in truck manufacturing, logistics, and charge point operations across Europe. The company also showcased its Mega Satellite at the EV Charging Summit and Expo in Las Vegas.
