WeaveGrid, a pioneering software firm, and Toyota Motor North America have joined forces to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience for Toyota and Lexus battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) owners, while simultaneously promoting a more sustainable and resilient electric grid. This collaboration, already operational in select U.S. utility territories and set to expand, aims to provide significant savings and environmental benefits to EV owners.

At the core of this partnership is WeaveGrid’s cutting-edge software, seamlessly integrated with Toyota and Lexus BEVs and PHEVs. This integration offers a dual advantage: it facilitates cost-effective home charging for vehicle owners and supplies crucial EV load management capabilities to major electric utilities. The initiative allows drivers to engage in charging optimization, gain personalized insights, and enjoy cost reductions at home.

Apoorv Bhargava, Co-founder and CEO of WeaveGrid, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its potential to fast-track the shift towards decarbonized transportation. “WeaveGrid is thrilled to collaborate with Toyota, a global automotive leader, to offer innovative solutions we both believe will help accelerate the transition to decarbonized transportation,” Bhargava stated.

From Toyota’s perspective, the collaboration extends beyond just charging solutions. Christopher Yang, Group Vice President of Toyota Business Development, highlighted the ambition to develop a comprehensive home energy ecosystem. This ecosystem aims not only to facilitate EV charging but also to offer economic advantages and contribute to community grid stability. “Toyota is committed to creating a home energy ecosystem where customers can not only charge their EVs at home but also provide customers with the opportunity to save money, utilize clean energy, and potentially contribute to grid and energy stability in their communities,” Yang remarked.

Participants in WeaveGrid-enabled programs with affiliated utilities stand to gain from direct incentives and other benefits. For instance, Xcel Energy’s Optimize Your Charge program offers a $50 annual bill credit plus daily savings from off-peak rates, while Baltimore Gas & Electric’s (BGE) EVsmart program can save Maryland customers about $150 annually. All program participants receive customized dashboards offering insights and tips on optimizing charging costs over time.

About WeaveGrid: A leader in its field, WeaveGrid develops software solutions that facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, ensuring intelligent charging, utility savings, and grid stability. This contribution is vital for ushering in a greener future.
