Volkswagen Achieves Electric Milestone

Volkswagen celebrates delivering 1.5 million all-electric ID. models, highlighting its electromobility leadership with the ID.7 Tourer Pro handover and plans for affordable future EVs.

Volkswagen has marked a pivotal achievement in its shift toward sustainable mobility by delivering its 1.5 millionth all-electric ID. model. This milestone underscores the company’s leadership in the electromobility sector, with vehicles from the ID. family gaining strong traction across global markets.

Key Highlights

  • 1.5 Million ID. Models Delivered: Volkswagen has handed over 1.5 million all-electric vehicles worldwide since the ID. family’s launch.
  • Anniversary Vehicle: A black ID.7 Tourer Pro, produced at the Emden plant, was delivered to a customer from Vechta.
  • Leadership Presence: Minister President of Lower Saxony Olaf Lies, along with Volkswagen Board members Martin Sander and Kai Grünitz, participated in the handover.
  • Top Registrations: Volkswagen leads electric vehicle registrations in Germany and Europe.
  • Future Models: Upcoming launches include the ID.2all in 2026 and ID. EVERY1 in 2027, priced under 25,000 euros and around 20,000 euros, respectively.

The handover ceremony highlighted Volkswagen’s commitment to electromobility. Martin Sander, Board Member for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales, emphasized that this achievement positions Volkswagen as a pioneer in the field. The ID.7 Tourer Pro, the milestone vehicle, offers an impressive range of up to 606 kilometers, setting a high standard in its class with combined energy consumption of 16.8–14.5 kWh/100 km and zero CO₂ emissions.

Volkswagen Achieves Electric Milestone

Since the ID. family’s debut with the ID.3 in 2020, the lineup has expanded significantly. Following the ID.3, Volkswagen introduced the ID.4 SUV in 2021, along with its coupé variant ID.5 and the electric bus ID. Buzz. The latest additions, the ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer in 2024, have performed exceptionally well. Notably, the ID.7 Tourer topped electric vehicle registrations in Germany during the first half of 2025.

Volkswagen’s transformation is evident in its manufacturing investments. The Emden plant in East Frisia exemplifies this, with over one billion euros invested to convert it into an exclusive electric vehicle facility. It joins Zwickau and Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden as dedicated EV sites in Germany. Additional production occurs in Hanover, Chattanooga (USA), and locations in China including Foshan, Changsha, and Anting.

Kai Grünitz, Board Member for Technical Development, and Olaf Lies praised the ID.7 as a symbol of Lower Saxony’s innovation and transformation capabilities. Lies, who previously used an ID.7 as his official vehicle, noted the pride the entire Volkswagen team can take in these accomplishments.

Despite strong commercial registrations driven by tax incentives, Sander called for clearer government messages and incentives to encourage private buyers and reduce skepticism. This would further accelerate the electromobility ramp-up.

Looking ahead, Volkswagen continues its electric offensive with affordable models. The production version of the compact ID.2all, a concept car, aims to make electromobility accessible under 25,000 euros. In 2027, the ID. EVERY1, another concept, will target an entry-level price of around 20,000 euros. Sander reiterated the goal: making electromobility affordable, reliable, and sustainable for everyone.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand operates globally, producing vehicles at 28 locations in 12 countries. In 2024, it delivered about 4.8 million cars, including bestsellers like the Polo, T-Roc, T-Cross, Golf, Tiguan, and Passat, alongside the ID. family. With approximately 170,000 employees worldwide, Volkswagen pursues its ACCELERATE strategy to become the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility.
