Volkswagen has reached a significant production milestone with the delivery of its two millionth battery electric vehicle. The anniversary car, an ID.3 built at the Zwickau plant, was handed over to a customer at the Transparent Factory in Dresden. The achievement spans the automaker’s full EV history, dating back to the e-up! launch in 2013.
Highlights
- Volkswagen delivered its two millionth all-electric vehicle, an ID.3 produced at its Zwickau facility in Germany.
- Three models drive the milestone: the ID.4 leads with approximately 901,000 deliveries, followed by the ID.3 at 628,000 and the ID.7 at 132,000.
- The ID. Polo arrives in 2026 as the first of four new small and compact EVs aimed at broadening market access.
- Volkswagen delivered around 382,000 all-electric vehicles globally in 2025, reinforcing its position as one of Europe’s top BEV providers.
ID.3, ID.4, and ID.7 Lead the Lineup
Three models account for the bulk of Volkswagen’s electric vehicle deliveries. Each serves a distinct market segment within the ID. family.
- ID.3 (approximately 628,000 delivered): The compact hatchback was Volkswagen’s first model built on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB). It launched in 2020 and opened the door to affordable electric mobility. A further product upgrade is expected soon.
- ID.4 (approximately 901,000 delivered, including ID.5): The electric SUV has been the brand’s top-selling EV globally. Key markets include Germany, China, and the United States.
- ID.7 (approximately 132,000 delivered): Volkswagen added the all-electric sedan in 2023, followed by the ID.7 Tourer estate. The model targets the upper mid-range segment with long range, efficiency, and comfort.

ID. Polo Targets the Small Car Segment
Volkswagen plans to expand EV access further with the ID. Polo, a near-production concept car. It will be the first of four new electric models launching in 2026 within the small car and compact segments.
Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, said the new models aim to bring affordable electric vehicles into the high-volume small car market. He added that this represents the next growth phase in the brand’s transformation strategy.
Transparent Factory Serves as Delivery Hub
The milestone delivery took place at Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory in Dresden. Although series production has ended there, the facility now focuses on customer experience and vehicle handovers.
Approximately 3,500 vehicles were delivered at the Dresden facility in 2025. More than 90 percent were all-electric or plug-in hybrid models. As a result, the Transparent Factory ranks as Volkswagen’s second-largest domestic delivery center after Autostadt Wolfsburg.
Meanwhile, the nearby Zwickau plant remains central to Volkswagen’s EV production. Around 212,000 electric vehicles rolled off its assembly line in 2025.
Volkswagen’s Broader EV Strategy
Volkswagen delivered approximately 4.7 million vehicles globally in 2025 across all powertrains. The brand produces vehicles at 28 locations in 12 countries and employs about 170,000 people worldwide. Under its BOOST 2030 strategy, the company continues to prioritize its shift toward electric mobility.
