Voltpost Wins District of Columbia Grant for Curbside EV Charging Deployment

Voltpost has been selected as one of three recipients of a $609,500 District of Columbia grant to deploy publicly accessible Level 2 lamppost EV chargers at and near District-owned sites.

The District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) has selected Voltpost as one of three recipients of a new Public EV Charging grant, clearing the way for the company to install and operate publicly accessible Level 2 charging at and near District-owned sites across the city. The award is part of a broader DC infrastructure push targeting curbside and neighborhood charging gaps.

Highlights

  • $609,500 awarded across three grant recipients under DOEE’s Public EV Charging program
  • DC ranked first in the nation for EV adoption, with EVs reaching 20% of new vehicle registrations in Q4 2025
  • Voltpost will deploy pole-mounted Level 2 curbside chargers at and near District-owned sites
  • Award sits alongside a parallel $9.6 million DOEE/DDOT grant for fast charging near interstate corridors

Grant Details and Deployment Plan

DOEE distributed a combined $609,500 through the Public EV Charging program to three companies, with Voltpost among the selected awardees. The funding will support installation of Voltpost’s curbside, pole-mounted chargers in neighborhoods across the District, extending Level 2 charging to residents who lack reliable home or off-street options.

Voltpost retrofits existing lampposts and utility poles into Level 2 charging stations, an approach the company has previously deployed in New York, Connecticut, Michigan, and Illinois. The platform is paired with a mobile app for locating chargers, monitoring sessions, and handling payment.

DC’s EV Adoption Lead

The award lands as the District continues to lead the country in EV uptake. Electric vehicles accounted for 20% of all new vehicle registrations in DC during the fourth quarter of 2025, placing the city ahead of every US state on that metric. Public charging demand has grown alongside that adoption curve, particularly in dense residential areas where private parking is limited.

Executive Comment

“We are thrilled to bring Voltpost’s retrofit charging platform to the nation’s capital,” said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and Co-Founder of Voltpost. “Expanding charging access is critical to accelerating EV adoption, and through this collaboration with DOEE, we will install public charging infrastructure for District residents both curbside and in parking lots. This charging project progresses vital clean transportation goals, and we are grateful to the DC Government for their vision and leadership.”

Broader DC Charging Buildout

Voltpost’s award is one component of a wider District effort coordinated by DOEE and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT). Parallel programs include a $9.6 million grant for fast charging near major interstate corridors, a Neighborhood Curbside EV Charging Station Pilot rolling out across all eight wards, and a $1 million assistance program for charging at multifamily buildings. Together, the initiatives represent one of the more comprehensive urban EV charging buildouts currently underway in the United States.
