Volvo EX30 Gains New Powertrains and V2L

Volvo updates the EX30 with new entry-level powertrains, Vehicle-to-Load capability, redesigned interiors, and over-the-air UX improvements for new and existing owners.

Volvo Cars announced a series of updates to the EX30 compact electric SUV for the upcoming model year. The changes include new entry-level powertrain options, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, redesigned interior themes, and software-based user experience improvements. Several updates will also reach current EX30 owners through free over-the-air software updates.

Highlights

  • New 110 kW powertrain pairs with a 51 kWh battery for 339 km of WLTP range, with an optional 69 kWh battery extending range to 476 km.
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality transforms the EX30 into a mobile power source for external devices and appliances.
  • Two premium interior options — “Harvest” and “Black” — join the lineup alongside an expanded Black Edition offering.
  • Redesigned UX and controls arrive via over-the-air update planned for summer, available to new and existing owners.

New Entry-Level Powertrain Options

The EX30 now offers a 110 kW (150 PS) single-motor powertrain. It pairs with a 51 kWh battery that delivers up to 339 km of WLTP range. This configuration targets daily commuters seeking a lower entry price into the EX30 lineup.

For longer-distance needs, buyers can opt for a 69 kWh battery. That larger pack extends range to 476 km under WLTP testing conditions. These additions join the existing powertrain options, broadening the EX30’s configuration choices.

Vehicle-to-Load Capability

The EX30 is hardware-ready to support V2L technology. This feature allows the vehicle’s battery to supply energy to external devices. Potential use cases include charging e-bikes, powering tools, running sound systems, or supplying camping equipment.

An adapter connecting the car to external appliances is required and sold separately as an accessory. V2L will initially roll out in select markets. Volvo plans to deliver the feature through an over-the-air software update during summer.

Redesigned User Experience

A UX overhaul brings a redesigned settings and controls system to the EX30’s center display. The update prioritizes quicker access to frequently used functions. Additionally, a customizable content bar lets drivers choose between predictive actions or personalized shortcuts.

The UX update is also planned for delivery via over-the-air update this summer. Both new and existing EX30 customers will receive the changes at no cost.

New Interior and Black Edition Options

Volvo introduced two additional interior themes for the EX30. The “Harvest” room draws from Scandinavian design with light-toned woven recycled textile upholstery, Nordico material made from recycled PET bottles, and dark flax décor paired with a black headliner.

The “Black” interior features deep-black Nordico upholstery with contrasting seams and dark flax décor. This interior is also now available on the EX30 Black Edition, which adds three exterior color choices:

  • Onyx Black
  • Vapour Grey
  • Crystal White

Cross Country Range Expands

The EX30 Cross Country lineup grows as well. Volvo added a Plus trim level and a more efficient single-motor option to that variant. These additions align with Volvo’s broader strategy to widen the EX30’s market reach.

Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars, noted that the compact premium EV segment is growing quickly. He said the updated EX30 is expected to expand Volvo’s addressable market and drive further electrified growth across its lineup.
