XCharge North America Deploys 400kW EV Chargers in Vermont

XCharge North America and Cellerate Power have deployed 400kW C7 Ultra-Fast Chargers in Winhall, Vermont. The site offers the state’s fastest charging speeds, supporting both NACS and CCS standards to improve regional grid resilience.

XCharge North America has partnered with Cellerate Power to deploy high-speed electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Winhall, Vermont. The project introduces advanced charging hardware to address the state’s specific topographical and climatic needs.

Highlights

  • High-Speed Output: The deployment features XCharge NA’s C7 Ultra-Fast Chargers, capable of delivering 400kW speeds.
  • Universal Access: The site supports virtually all EV models via both NACS and CCS connectors.
  • Strategic Location: Situated near Stratton Mountain Ski Resort, the site fills a critical infrastructure gap in a high-traffic area.
  • Grid Resilience: The technology includes battery-integrated solutions designed to strengthen local grid stability.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The Winhall site utilizes the C7 Ultra-Fast Charger, a flagship model from XCharge North America. The unit is engineered to deliver a maximum power output of 400kW. This specification represents a significant upgrade over standard fast chargers.

The C7 system incorporates Dynamic Load Management. This feature automatically adjusts power distribution between connectors based on real-time vehicle demand. It ensures efficient energy utilization during peak usage hours.

Key technical features of the C7 deployment include:

  • Connectors: Dual NACS and CCS ports to service mixed fleets.
  • Display: 21.5-inch screens for user interface and local economic promotion.
  • Speed: Approximately 2-3 times faster than competing ultra-fast chargers in the region.

Strategic Location and Regional Impact

The site is located at 40 VT – Route 30, Winhall, VT 05340. This position places the infrastructure at the base of the Stratton Mountain Ski Resort access road, a high-density destination for seasonal travelers.

Prior to this installation, the nearest alternative charging facility was located 30 minutes away. That alternative provided a maximum output of 150kW. The new site significantly reduces downtime for drivers in the area.

Addressing Environmental Challenges

Vermont’s environment presents distinct challenges for EV adoption. Cold winters and mountainous terrain can drastically reduce battery efficiency and range.

High-power 400kW charging helps mitigate “range anxiety” by minimizing the time required to regain charge in adverse conditions. Cellerate Power selected the technology specifically to maintain reliability during severe winter weather.
