XCharge North America (XCharge NA) and Gateway Fleets have announced a new partnership to provide advanced electric vehicle charging solutions for last-mile logistics in Southern California. In a significant move to support fleet electrification, XCharge NA has deployed two of its dual-dispenser GridLink chargers at a new EV charging depot in Riverside, California. This facility, developed and operated by Gateway Fleets, offers reliable and cost-effective charging for customers like medium-duty fleets and independent FedEx operators, marking a key step in accelerating the nationwide transition to electric vehicles.
Key Highlights
- New Charging Depot: XCharge NA has deployed its advanced GridLink chargers at a new Gateway Fleets charging depot in Riverside, California.
- Targeted Support: The facility is specifically designed to serve the demanding needs of last-mile delivery fleets.
- Innovative Technology: The chargers feature a battery-integrated solution that stores 430 kWh of energy during off-peak hours to reduce energy costs and avoid straining the electrical grid.
- Comprehensive Service: Gateway Fleets provides a bundled service that combines flat-rate EV leasing with dependable charging infrastructure, simplifying the transition for operators.
- Meeting Mandates: The partnership helps fleet operators comply with California’s ambitious Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandates without requiring them to own or manage the charging equipment.
Addressing California’s Energy Demands
As California continues to enforce its clean vehicle policies, including a 100% ZEV mandate for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles by 2040, the state’s power grid faces increasing pressure. Many EV charging projects are now utilizing battery microgrids to deliver power more efficiently.
XCharge NA’s GridLink technology directly addresses this challenge. By integrating substantial battery storage with high-power charging, the system can draw and store electricity during off-peak hours when costs are lower. This stored energy is then used for daytime charging, which significantly reduces peak demand charges and lowers overall energy costs for fleet operators.
A Streamlined Solution for Fleets
Gateway Fleets is leveraging this innovative technology to offer a more dependable and economical charging solution for last-mile delivery operators. Their model combines flat-rate EV leasing with reliable charging infrastructure, helping businesses lower their monthly expenses and stay compliant with state regulations.
“We chose to partner with XCharge NA because their solution is easy to operate, dependable under daily load, and built with commercial fleets in mind,” stated Bruce Pflaum, CEO and Founder of Gateway Fleets. He highlighted that XCharge NA’s high battery capacity and space-efficient design were critical factors in the decision.
Pioneering a Practical EV Future
This collaboration demonstrates the growing maturity of the EV charging industry and its ability to overcome previous infrastructure limitations. The GridLink system is designed to turn grid-limited sites into dependable charging hubs, making fleet electrification both practical and cost-effective.
“This partnership exemplifies how far EV charging has come,” said Aatish Patel, co-founder and president of XCharge NA. “By transforming these sites into dependable charging hubs, we’re making electrification more practical and cost effective. XCharge NA is proud to work alongside partners like Gateway Fleets who are pushing the industry forward.”
