BYD will equip its production vehicles with Parkopedia in-car parking data and payment functionality on Android Automotive OS beginning in early 2027. Parkopedia, the Automotive & Data brand of mobility platform Arrive, said this week it will supply the data and in-car payment functionality that lets BYD models search and pay for parking from the vehicle across Europe. The service, branded ParkPay and powered by Parkopedia, runs within the Android Automotive OS (AAOS) environment with Google built-in.
Highlights
- ParkPay is due in production BYD vehicles at the start of 2027, pre-installed on newer models including the Denza Z9 GT and BYD Atto 3 Evo, with over-the-air updates adding it to older BYD vehicles.
- The service runs on Android Automotive OS with Google built-in and adds easy discovery, notifications, and auto-stop to parking sessions.
- BYD cars will also gain RingGo parking payment integrations in the UK and EasyPark parking payment availability across Europe.
- Parking reservations, public EV charging payments, and tolling payments are planned for a future update.
How Does ParkPay Work for BYD Drivers?
Parkopedia is supplying the in-car parking data and payment functionality, which BYD will offer as ParkPay. When BYD models recognize parking behavior in supported locations, the system shows an on-screen notification telling drivers they can pay for parking via ParkPay. Selecting the notification opens the app with the relevant parking area pre-selected, allowing a session to start in a few clicks.
The arrangement is positioned to address shortcomings in some off-the-shelf parking and charging services by providing easy discovery, notifications, and auto-stop. BYD cars will also benefit from RingGo parking payment integrations in the UK and EasyPark parking payment availability across Europe.
Duncan Licence, Head of Automotive & Data at Arrive, said: “We are proud to provide BYD with our connected services to ensure that BYD drivers can benefit from seamless in-car experiences. BYD is leading the industry by showing the importance of supporting cutting-edge hardware development with a robust, data-driven in-car driver experience. We look forward to the continued development of the service for additional convenience and added value for BYD drivers.”
Supported Models and Rollout
The service is due in production BYD vehicles at the start of 2027. The app will be pre-installed on newer models, including the Denza Z9 GT and BYD Atto 3 Evo, with over-the-air updates extending it to older BYD vehicles. These services come together within a BYD mobility app that provides connected-car functionality on a single platform.
Planned Charging, Tolling, and Reservation Features
The service initially covers parking data and in-car payments, with planned expansion to EV charging and tolling payments and parking reservations. Parkopedia operates across 90 countries, helping drivers find and pay for parking, EV charging, fuel, and tolls.
Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, added: “BYD is a committed to bringing the finest technologies accessible to as many people as possible, and with our DENZA brand, FLASH Charging and 2nd Generation Blade Battery will remove barriers to electric-vehicle adoption. We’re pleased to partner with Parkopedia to provide streamlined in-car parking payments that will further simplify the user experience for our drivers. Innovation plays a significant role in BYD’s products, and this latest ParkPay service forms part of our next-generation connected-car experience.”
