Altilium, a UK-based clean technology group, has launched Recell.store, an online platform to facilitate the safe and efficient recycling of end-of-life EV batteries. This new platform aims to address the increasing volume of used EV batteries and support a circular economy for critical battery minerals in the UK. Recell.store allows businesses to easily register used batteries for recycling or second-life applications while offering collection services, reducing the environmental impact of battery disposal.

Key Highlights

  • Recell.store offers a user-friendly solution for selling used EV batteries for recycling.
  • Altilium will collect batteries from registered businesses for processing at its UK facilities.
  • The platform supports the circular economy by recovering critical materials like lithium and nickel.
  • Altilium plans to build the UK’s largest EV battery recycling plant in Teesside.
  • Recell.store aligns with Altilium’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of battery waste.

Recell.store aims to streamline the process for businesses to manage used EV batteries responsibly. With a user-friendly interface, companies can easily register their batteries and receive quotes for recycling or second-life use. Altilium then handles the collection, dismantling, and processing of batteries, recovering valuable materials to reduce reliance on mining. This contributes to a greener, more sustainable transport future.

Rod Savage, Altilium’s Programme Director, emphasized, “Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards full battery circularity and a more sustainable transport future. Recell.store not only provides a practical solution for managing end-of-life EV batteries but also reinforces our commitment to environmental stewardship. By facilitating the recycling and reuse of these batteries, we are helping to reduce waste and conserve valuable resources.”

Altilium’s EcoCathode™ technology is a key part of the recycling process, enabling the recovery of over 95% of critical battery metals, significantly reducing costs and greenhouse gas emissions compared to sourcing virgin materials. Recovered materials are then reused for new battery production, reducing the environmental impact of EVs even further.

In response to the expected rise in end-of-life batteries, Altilium is also planning to construct the UK’s largest EV battery recycling facility in Teesside, capable of processing batteries from over 150,000 EVs per year. This expansion underscores the company’s dedication to full battery circularity and keeping critical minerals within the UK supply chain.

For businesses interested in sustainable battery management, Altilium encourages them to explore the platform at www.recell.store.
