ChargePoint has enabled more than 90 charging ports for the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD), the agency responsible for air quality regulation across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. The installations serve both district employees and the general public.
Highlights
- ChargePoint replaced outdated chargers with 55 new Level 2 units capable of serving 94 vehicles simultaneously, including multiple CP6000 stations.
- The CP6000 delivers 60% faster charging than a typical Level 2 station and features ChargePoint’s Omni Port connector, which supports any modern EV without an adapter.
- All stations are managed through ChargePoint’s cloud platform with real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics, and a virtual waitlist feature for employees.
- Charging sites include ADA-compliant spacing, signage, and charger placement.
Infrastructure Details
The project swapped out legacy equipment for 55 new Level 2 ChargePoint units. Among them are several CP6000 stations, which charge 60% faster than standard Level 2 hardware. The CP6000 uses ChargePoint’s Omni Port connector system, so drivers can plug in without needing a separate adapter.
All 94 ports are accessible to both South Coast AQMD staff and the public.
Software and Accessibility
The stations run on ChargePoint’s cloud-based management platform. The software provides real-time utilization data, remote performance monitoring, and automated alerts. A virtual waitlist feature notifies employees through the ChargePoint mobile app when a port opens up.
Additionally, all sites meet ADA accessibility standards, with compliant spacing, signage, and charger placement. Station locations are available through the ChargePoint app.
Emissions Context
“Expanding charging access for both staff and the public helps address range anxiety and closes infrastructure gaps, which remain key barriers to widespread EV adoption,” said Wayne Nastri, South Coast AQMD Executive Officer. “This is a critical step toward reducing transportation-related emissions. The transportation sector accounts for about 40% of California’s greenhouse gases, with light-duty vehicles representing the largest share at 25-30% statewide.”
“Together with South Coast AQMD, ChargePoint is deploying accessible and reliable charging options for communities within America’s largest EV market,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO at ChargePoint.
