Audi is expanding its Q5 lineup with the introduction of new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of its popular SUV and Sportback models. These vehicles combine a powerful gasoline engine with an advanced electric motor and a larger high-voltage battery, offering a significant all-electric driving range and enhanced efficiency. The new models are scheduled for a UK launch in the third quarter of 2025, with first customer deliveries in September.

Key Highlights

  • Electric Range: The new Q5 e-hybrid can travel up to 62 miles on purely electric power.
  • System Power: A 2.0 TFSI engine and an electric motor produce a combined 299PS (220 kW) of system power.
  • Battery Capacity: The high-voltage battery capacity has been increased by approximately 45% to 25.9 kWh.
  • Pricing: The Q5 SUV e-hybrid starts at £56,740 (OTR) in the UK, while the Sportback e-hybrid starts at £59,240 (OTR).

Performance and Powertrain

The new Audi Q5 e-hybrid models are powered by a 2.0 TFSI gasoline engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a total system output of 299PS. This powertrain allows the vehicles to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph. An electrified dual-clutch transmission and quattro ultra drive system ensure a driving experience that is both sporty and comfortable. The full system torque of 450Nm is available almost instantly, providing responsive acceleration.

Advanced Battery and Charging

A core update is the new high-voltage battery, which now boasts a capacity of 25.9 kWh (net 20.7 kWh), a roughly 45% increase over its predecessor. This significant boost in capacity allows for an impressive electric-only range of up to 62 miles.

Charging capabilities have also been improved. The maximum AC charging power is now 11 kW, reducing the time for a full charge to just 2.5 hours when the battery is empty. For convenience, Audi’s charging service provides access to numerous charging points across 28 European countries.

Intelligent Driving and Efficiency

The Q5 e-hybrid features two main operating modes: “EV” and “hybrid.” In EV mode, the vehicle runs exclusively on electric power at speeds up to 87 mph. The hybrid management system is designed for maximum efficiency, automatically selecting the optimal operating strategy based on navigation data to prioritize electric driving in urban areas.

Key efficiency features include:

  • Increased Recuperation: Audi has significantly boosted regenerative braking performance. In many situations, the electric motor handles over 90% of all deceleration, feeding energy back into the battery.
  • Adjustable Regeneration: Drivers can use steering wheel paddles to select one of three regenerative braking levels in EV mode.
  • Charge Level Control: For the first time, a digital slider allows the driver to manually set a desired battery charge level to save electric energy for later use.

Upgraded Standard Equipment

Both the SUV and Sportback models come with a host of upgraded standard features. Standard equipment includes S sports suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, and advanced LED headlights and rear lights. Inside, the cabin features the MMI experience plus infotainment system and a versatile, fully adjustable rear seat bench plus, which can be moved to increase either legroom or cargo space. The SUV offers 438 liters of cargo volume, while the Sportback provides 433 liters.
