BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary has begun production of test vehicles, marking a key milestone toward the start of series production for the fully-electric Neue Klasse X models in late 2025. The plant is now ramping up to ensure a seamless start for full-scale production.
Key Highlights:
- The first test vehicles for the fully-electric Neue Klasse X models have rolled off the production line.
- BMW’s new facility in Debrecen is focusing on optimizing logistics and production processes.
- Staff at the plant are undergoing intensive training to ensure smooth operation ahead of series production.
- The new plant is leveraging cutting-edge production systems with digital connectivity for future scalability.
The production of test vehicles is a crucial phase for validating all logistics and production operations under real conditions, preparing the facility for a seamless transition to full-scale production. Milan Nedeljković, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, remarked, “The production of the first test vehicles in Debrecen is an important milestone in commissioning the new plant.” This step is essential for ensuring the vehicles and production systems achieve series maturity.
Preparation for Series Production
The integration of new models begins with producing near-series vehicles, allowing thorough testing of all production phases and logistics. Every vehicle part is meticulously analyzed to guarantee that all operations—despite being at a preliminary stage—are as intricate as those for large-scale production. Materials and vehicle components are continuously delivered, and each production step undergoes rigorous scrutiny.
Special emphasis is placed on testing and optimizing state-of-the-art production systems and digital connectivity tools. This phase is critical for identifying areas of improvement and ensuring that the systems are ready for series production in 2025. Over the next several months, efforts will be directed at refining these processes based on insights gained during test production.
Intensive Training for Future Growth
During this pre-production phase, new employees are receiving intensive training to familiarize themselves with the installations and machinery. Such training is integral to achieving operational readiness. Close collaboration across all areas of production is also emphasized to make sure the plant can meet its goal of a seamless series production launch.
As the plant continues to refine its processes and validate its systems, BMW Group Plant Debrecen remains focused on achieving the standards necessary for mass production of its Neue Klasse electric vehicles. This milestone marks a significant leap towards the company’s electrified future.
Note: Since this is a pre-production model, consumption data for the X model of the Neue Klasse is not available at this time.
