Subaru unveiled the 2027 Getaway at the 2026 New York International Auto Show on April 1. The all-electric, three-row SUV is the automaker’s fourth EV and its most powerful production vehicle to date. It delivers 420 horsepower from dual electric motors, offers more than 300 miles of estimated range, and seats up to seven. Sales begin in late 2026.
Highlights
- 420 hp from dual motors with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a 0–60 mph time under 5 seconds
- 95.8-kWh battery with more than 300 miles of estimated range; a 77.0-kWh standard-range model follows in 2027
- Standard NACS charging port with 150-kW DC fast charging (10–80% in approximately 30 minutes)
- Three-row seating for up to seven with 45.6 cubic feet of cargo behind the second row
Powertrain and Capability
The Getaway pairs front and rear electric motors producing a combined 420 hp. Every trim comes standard with Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system. Additionally, the SUV offers 8.3 inches of ground clearance and X-MODE Dual-Mode System with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, Grip Control, and Downhill Assist Control. Towing capacity tops out at 3,500 pounds.
At launch, the long-range model uses a 95.8-kWh lithium-ion battery rated for more than 300 miles. A standard NACS port provides access to more than 25,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. Charging speeds reach 150 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in roughly 30 minutes. An onboard battery preconditioning system maintains charging performance in temperatures as low as 14°F.
A standard-range variant with a 77.0-kWh battery arrives in 2027. Subaru has not yet released range or pricing details for that model.
Interior and Cargo
Depending on trim, the Getaway seats up to seven via a second-row bench or up to six with standard captain’s chairs. Subaru says six-foot passengers can sit comfortably in all three rows. One-touch folding second-row seats ease third-row access, while a power-folding third row expands cargo space to 45.6 cubic feet — more than the Kia EV9. With the third row upright, cargo space measures 15.9 cubic feet.
Family-oriented features include cup and bottle holders at every seating position, three-zone climate control, dedicated third-row vents, USB-C ports in every row, and customizable ambient lighting. An available panoramic moonroof is offered on select trims.
Technology and Safety
A 14-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster are standard across the lineup. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity come standard, along with two available 15W wireless smartphone chargers in the front row. Five selectable drive modes include a customizable individual setting.
Every Getaway includes Subaru’s EyeSight suite of driver-assistance technologies. Standard features include Pre-Collision Braking, Blind Spot Monitors, Lane Departure Alert, Emergency Stop Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Higher trims add Front Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Park Assist, and a digital rearview mirror.
Design Details
The Getaway adopts Subaru’s next-generation EV design language. Up front, a six-star illuminated logo, dynamic daytime running lights, and headlamps with dedicated washers define the face. The daytime running lights also indicate charging status when the vehicle is plugged in. Standard roof rails are equipped on most trims, and flush door handles improve aerodynamic efficiency. Wheel options include 19- or 20-inch designs depending on trim level. At the rear, a three-dimensional illuminated Subaru logo sits between distinctive taillights.
Heated front seats are standard. Select trims add heated second- and third-row seats, ventilated front and second-row seats, and a 360-degree heated steering wheel.
Competitive Context
The Getaway shares its platform with the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV, the latest product of the ongoing Subaru-Toyota EV partnership. However, the Subaru distinguishes itself with higher output (420 hp vs. 338 hp for the Highlander EV) and standard AWD across all trims. Consumer Reports has estimated a starting price in the $60,000–$70,000 range.
The Getaway enters a growing segment of non-luxury three-row EVs alongside the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. Pricing and full specifications will be released closer to the late-2026 on-sale date.
