A New Era of Design

The new BMW iX3 introduces a new design language that is reduced, characterful, and timeless. The exterior design provides a modern interpretation of classic BMW styling, creating a powerful presence. At 4,782 millimeters long, 1,895 millimeters wide, and 1,635 millimeters tall, the SAV features hallmark proportions with precise lines that emphasize its rugged stance. The upright front end is defined by vertically arranged BMW kidneys, a nod to the Neue Klasse of the 1960s. Aerodynamic optimizations result in an impressive drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.24.

The vehicle’s versatility is highlighted by its generous cargo capacity, which expands from 520 to a maximum of 1,750 liters with the rear seats folded down. An additional 58-liter storage compartment is located under the hood. For greater hauling needs, an optional trailer tow hitch allows for a maximum trailer load of 2,000 kilograms.

Modern Interior and User Experience

Inside, the BMW iX3 sets new standards for modernity and digital integration. The uncluttered cabin offers generous space for five occupants, thanks to an architecture created specifically for electric vehicles. A “floating” instrument panel flows seamlessly into the door trims, creating an enveloping effect. The instrument panel’s fabric surface, combined with atmospheric backlighting, contributes to a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The interior design is centered around the new BMW Panoramic iDrive control system. The newly designed seats provide excellent long-distance comfort, and customers can choose from several interior design worlds, including options with Econeer seat coverings made from recycled PET or premium Merino leather. The available M Sport package adds further dynamic touches with Black high-gloss exterior features and M Sport seats.

Revolutionary BMW Panoramic iDrive

At the heart of the digital experience is BMW Panoramic iDrive, a system that redefines intuitive operation and driver focus. It projects key driving information across the entire width of the windscreen, from A-pillar to A-pillar. This is complemented by a free-cut-design Central Display, a new multifunction steering wheel with haptic feedback, and an optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display.

Underpinning this system is the new BMW Operating System X, which offers extensive personalization through the BMW ID and seamless connectivity via the My BMW App. The system integrates entertainment apps like Spotify, Disney+, and YouTube, as well as productivity tools such as the Zoom App. The upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant now uses Large Language Model (LLM) technology for more intuitive voice interaction.

Advanced Sixth-Generation BMW eDrive Technology

The iX3 is powered by sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, which includes highly efficient electric motors and a new 800V high-voltage battery with cylindrical cells. The BMW iX3 50 xDrive model features two electric motors that deliver a combined output of 345 kW/469 hp and 645 Nm (475 lb-ft) of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.

The new battery concept provides a usable energy content of 108.7 kWh, allowing for a range of up to 805 kilometers (500 miles). The 800V architecture facilitates rapid DC charging at up to 400 kW, which can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. The new iX3 will also support extensive bidirectional charging functions, including Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities.

Enhanced Driving Dynamics and Automation

A high-performance control unit, dubbed the “Heart of Joy,” manages all drivetrain and driving dynamics functions. It processes information up to ten times faster than conventional units, ensuring the instantaneous and precise power delivery expected of an electric vehicle. This results in a uniquely harmonious and responsive driving feel, with supreme traction and smooth braking.

Another “superbrain” computer powers the automated driving and parking functions. The BMW Symbiotic Drive system merges driver inputs seamlessly with AI-enabled software, creating a new level of driver assistance. Advanced features include a further-developed motorway assistant that allows for extended hands-free driving and a City Assistant with automatic traffic light detection.

Commitment to Holistic Sustainability

The development of the Neue Klasse emphasizes circularity and CO2e reduction. A holistic sustainability approach ensures the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive has a product carbon footprint 34 percent smaller than that of its predecessor over its full life cycle.

Approximately one-third of the vehicle is made from secondary raw materials. This includes recycled marine plastic for certain components and yarn for seat textiles made from 100 percent recycled PET. The BMW Group Plant in Debrecen, Hungary, where the iX3 will be built, operates without using fossil fuels in normal conditions.

The BMW Group offers extensive information on the Neue Klasse, its history, and innovative technologies on its corporate website, available here: https://www.bmwgroup.com/en/company/neue-klasse.html.
