Optimus Energy Acquires South Carolina Fast-Charging Network

Optimus Energy Solutions has acquired 52 DC fast charging stations across 26 South Carolina locations, preserving infrastructure built under a concluded Duke Energy pilot and migrating it to the ChargePoint network.

Optimus Energy Solutions has acquired a network of 52 DC fast charging stations across 26 locations in South Carolina, taking over infrastructure originally developed under a Duke Energy pilot program approved by the South Carolina Public Service Commission. The Orlando-area company says it will own and operate the network long term after Duke Energy’s pilot reached its planned conclusion. Many of the stations serve rural communities and sit along major travel corridors throughout the state.

Highlights

  • The acquired network comprises 52 DC fast charging stations across 26 locations throughout South Carolina, many in rural communities and along major travel corridors.
  • The stations were originally built under a Duke Energy pilot program approved by the South Carolina Public Service Commission; the pilot reached its planned conclusion before the acquisition.
  • All stations were migrated to the ChargePoint network over a two-week transition, a move the company says improves visibility and accessibility for drivers.
  • According to the company, South Carolina has more than 20,000 registered EVs on the road today.

From Utility Pilot to Private Ownership

The network traces back to a Duke Energy electric transportation pilot in South Carolina. With that program concluding as planned, Optimus Energy Solutions stepped in to keep the stations in service through private ownership rather than allowing the infrastructure to wind down.

The company says it intends to operate and maintain the network for decades as EV adoption grows across the Southeast.

“We are dedicated to expanding and maintaining the US’s critical energy infrastructure. This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to and long-term investment in EV charging access,” said Ben Pauluhn, President of Optimus Energy Solutions. “These stations provide critical charging access across South Carolina, particularly in rural areas where reliable infrastructure is essential for EV drivers.”

How Were the Stations Transitioned?

Over a two-week process, all 52 stations were migrated to the ChargePoint network, which the company says improves visibility and accessibility for EV drivers locating and using the chargers.

Optimus Energy Solutions’ Southeast Footprint

Headquartered in Central Florida, Optimus Energy Solutions has spent nearly a decade building and supporting EV charging and renewable energy projects across Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, and the Carolinas. The acquisition reflects the company’s focus on expanding access to DC fast charging infrastructure and energy production throughout the Southeast United States.
