BYD Launches ATTO 2 DM-i Hybrid SUV

BYD expands its European lineup with the ATTO 2 DM-i, a compact plug-in hybrid SUV offering 620 miles of range, advanced AI voice control, and competitive standard equipment packages.

BYD has announced the European launch of the ATTO 2 DM-i, a compact SUV utilizing the company’s proprietary Super Hybrid DM technology. This new model is engineered to bridge the transition to electric mobility by offering extended range capabilities alongside electric driving dynamics. First UK deliveries are expected to commence in Spring 2026.

Highlights

  • Achieves a combined WLTP range of up to 620 miles and weighted fuel consumption of 156 mpg.
  • Utilizes a 1.5-liter petrol engine with a thermal efficiency of 43.04% paired with dual electric motors.
  • Integrates AI-boosted voice control powered by Large Language Models for human-like interaction.
  • Offers two powertrain configurations with Blade Battery capacities of 7.8kWh and 18.0kWh.

Super Hybrid DM Powertrain

The ATTO 2 DM-i employs BYD’s Super Hybrid with DM (Dual Mode) technology, designed to operate primarily as an electric vehicle. The system integrates a 1.5-liter Xiaoyun petrol engine, dual high-speed electric motors, and a Blade Battery. The engine’s thermal efficiency is a key innovation at $43.04\%$.

The powertrain can switch between EV mode and HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) mode. In HEV mode, the petrol engine supplies charge to the battery and electric motor. When maximum power is needed, HEV can combine the potential of the petrol engine and the electric motor in Parallel mode. This intelligent system delivers weighted combined fuel consumption as low as 156 mpg.

Performance Configurations

BYD offers two distinct powertrain specifications for the ATTO 2 DM-i:

  • Active: Equipped with a 7.8kWh battery, this version delivers a system power of 166PS (122kW). It provides a WLTP pure-electric range of 24 miles and a combined range of 577 miles. The 0-62 mph time is 9.1 seconds.
  • Boost: Features a larger 18.0kWh battery, increasing total system output to 212PS (156kW). This trim achieves a pure-electric range of 55 miles and a total combined range of 620 miles. The 0-62 mph time is 7.5 seconds.

Both versions share a top speed of 111 mph.

Dimensions and Design

The ATTO 2 DM-i maintains compact dimensions with an unmistakable SUV design. It measures 4,330mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,675mm in height. The wheelbase is relatively long at 2,620mm.

Design adjustments for the hybrid model include a larger middle front grille and decorative lower elements on the front bumper. The rear features a full-width light bar joining “Chinese knot” tail-lights, signifying endless good luck. The car is available in four colors, including a new Midnight Blue finish unique to the Super Hybrid models.

Interior Technology and Utility

The cabin interface centers on a 12.8-inch touchscreen and an 8.8-inch full-LCD instrument panel. The infotainment system incorporates an updated voice control system, the “smarter assistant”. Activated by “Hi BYD,” the system uses Generative AI and Large Language Models to offer human-like interaction and multi-turn dialogue capability.

The boot capacity measures 425 liters with the rear seats up, which is more than many C-segment family hatchbacks. This capacity increases to 1,335 liters when the split-folding rear seat is lowered.

Standard Equipment and Safety

The ATTO 2 DM-i is generously equipped, regardless of the version. The two trim levels, Active and Boost, are subtly distinct in their standard equipment.

Boost Trim Equipment Highlights

  • 17-inch alloy wheels.
  • Panoramic roof with electric sunshade.
  • Heated front seats with electrical adjustment.
  • Heated steering wheel.
  • Wireless smartphone charging pad (50W).
  • Vehicle to Load (V2L) function (up to 3.3kW).
  • 6.6kW AC charger.

Both trims include a full line-up of Driver Assistance systems. Safety features include Adaptive and Intelligent Cruise Control (ACC/ICC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), and Forward and Rear Collision Warning (FCW, RCW). The car comes with a six-year manufacturer’s warranty and eight years’ cover for the drivetrain and battery.
