BYD, a leading global manufacturer of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and power batteries, celebrated the roll-off of its 10-millionth NEV at the Xiaomo Production Base in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone. The milestone coincides with BYD’s 30th anniversary, marking its evolution from a small startup to a major force in the automotive industry. At the event, BYD’s Chairman and President, Mr. Wang Chuanfu, delivered a keynote address reflecting on the company’s evolution from a small startup to a multinational corporation with nearly one million employees worldwide. BYD’s journey to the 10 million NEV milestone reflects its strategic focus on sustainable development. It took 15 years to produce the first 5 million NEVs, whereas the next 5 million were achieved in just 15 months. The 10-millionth vehicle, a DENZA Z9, was ceremonially presented to Mr. Feng Ji, Founder and CEO of Game Science, who is best known for his work on the game Black Myth: Wukong. During the ceremony, Mr. Wang attributed BYD’s success to its technological capabilities and the strong engineering culture embedded within the organization. He noted, “The soul of BYD’s engineers is the soul of our company.”
To further explore BYD’s unique culture, financial journalist Qin Shuo conducted interviews with almost 100 mid-to-senior level executives and employees at BYD. These insights were compiled into a book titled The Soul of Engineers, offering an in-depth look at the company’s engineering-driven ethos.
