BYD, the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has achieved a historic global first by producing its 13 millionth NEV. The milestone vehicle, a luxury YANGWANG U7, rolled off the production line, marking a significant accomplishment for BYD and a pivotal moment in the global transition to electrified transportation. This achievement underscores the company’s sustained growth and the increasing consumer demand for greener vehicle technologies.

- The 13 millionth vehicle is a YANGWANG U7, part of BYD’s high-end luxury sub-brand.

Accelerated Growth and Global Expansion
BYD’s commitment to an all-electrified model strategy, which includes both pure electric and Super Hybrid DM Technology vehicles, has fueled its rapid production growth. The company took only eight months to increase its NEV production from 10 million to 13 million units. This rapid acceleration stands in stark contrast to the 13 years it took BYD to build its first million NEVs.
This momentum is reflected in the company’s strong sales performance. In the first half of 2025, BYD sold a total of 2,145,954 new energy passenger vehicles worldwide, cementing its position as the top-selling NEV brand. The company’s international presence is also expanding quickly, with 470,086 passenger vehicles and pickup trucks sold in overseas markets during the same period. This represents a remarkable 128.5% year-on-year growth in exports.
The Milestone Vehicle: YANGWANG U7
The vehicle that marked this production milestone, the YANGWANG U7, is the flagship sedan from BYD’s luxury sub-brand, YANGWANG. Now being delivered to customers across China, the U7 is equipped with groundbreaking features such as the DiSus-Z intelligent body control system, the e⁴ platform, a horizontally opposed motor, and rear-wheel steering. These advanced technologies provide exceptional performance, vehicle stability, and responsive handling. Since its launch, the YANGWANG brand has seen its cumulative deliveries surpass 10,000 units.
A Leader in In-House Technology
Founded in 1995, BYD is the only NEV producer to have mastered the core technologies of the entire industrial chain, from power batteries and automotive semiconductors to motors and controller systems. This vertical integration is a key driver of its innovation. The company employs over 120,000 engineers and technicians and applies for an average of 40 new patents every working day.
A prime example of its technological prowess is the Blade Battery, introduced in 2020. This cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery passed rigorous safety tests, including a puncture test, without emitting smoke or flames. The Blade Battery is known for its safety, efficient cooling, and durability, capable of withstanding more than 5,000 charge and discharge cycles.
