CATL has unveiled the Bedrock Chassis, a groundbreaking ultra-safe skateboard chassis. Capable of withstanding a 120 km/h frontal impact without catching fire or exploding, this innovation sets a new safety benchmark in intelligent chassis design. The Bedrock Chassis not only redefines crash safety standards but also promises modularity and efficiency in vehicle development.

Key Highlights

  • Unmatched safety performance: Passed extreme 120 km/h frontal impact tests, exceeding industry norms.
  • Innovative design: Features Cell-to-Chassis integration, absorbing 85% of collision energy compared to 60% in traditional designs.
  • Advanced materials: Utilizes submarine-grade steel and aerospace-grade aluminum for unparalleled rigidity.
  • Revolutionary battery technology: Includes high-voltage disconnection within 0.01 seconds and fire-resistant battery cells.
  • Development efficiency: Reduces vehicle production cycles from 36 months to 12-18 months.

Redefining Crash Safety

CATL’s Bedrock Chassis successfully passed the world’s first high-speed frontal impact test at 120 km/h without fire, explosion, or thermal runaway. This test demonstrates the chassis’s ability to absorb significantly higher collision energy than traditional systems.

Key structural innovations, including a three-dimensional biomimetic tortoise shell design and an aircraft carrier-grade arresting system, ensure optimal impact force distribution. Additionally, the use of 2000 MPa submarine-grade steel and aerospace-grade aluminum enhances durability.

Pioneering Battery Safety

The chassis introduces an ultra-safe battery design with NP technology, a high-ductility insulation film, and fast high-voltage disconnection systems. Batteries have undergone rigorous testing, such as high-speed sled impacts and bending trials, without catching fire or exploding, setting a new industry standard.

Accelerating Modular Design

By decoupling the chassis from the upper body, the Bedrock Chassis offers flexibility for modular and customized vehicle designs. The platform supports multiple vehicle configurations and intelligent driving capabilities, ranging from L3 to L4.

AVATR, the first automaker to adopt the Bedrock Chassis, has partnered with CATL to enhance vehicle safety and efficiency.

A Safer Future

CATL’s Bedrock Chassis aims to transform safety in electric vehicles, ushering in a new era of ultra-safe, modular, and intelligent transportation. Through continued innovation and collaboration, CATL is committed to building a safer ecosystem for EV batteries and vehicles.
