ChargePoint, a top provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has launched five new ultra-fast charging stations in upstate New York, backed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). This initiative enhances EV infrastructure, supports cleaner air, and targets underserved communities. Located in Cortland, Waterloo, Lake Placid, Niagara Falls, and Ripley, these stations are accessible via the ChargePoint app, showcasing how public-private partnerships can accelerate EV adoption.
Key Highlights of the Initiative
- Locations: Five ultra-fast charging stations opened in Cortland, Waterloo, Lake Placid, Niagara Falls, and Ripley.
- Accessibility: Drivers can locate, use, and pay for charging through the ChargePoint mobile app.
- Community Focus: 50% of stations are in disadvantaged communities, as defined by New York’s Climate Justice Working Group.
- Environmental Impact: Aims to reduce pollution and improve air quality across the state.
ChargePoint’s collaboration with NYSERDA highlights the importance of combining public funding and private expertise to expand EV infrastructure. “ChargePoint’s collaboration with NYSERDA demonstrates the critical role that public-private partnerships will continue to play in the build out of charging infrastructure, particularly at the state level,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. He emphasized that such teamwork lowers costs and speeds up deployment, making EV charging more accessible.
NYSERDA’s Clean Transportation program plays a vital role by reducing the financial burden of building public charging sites. Doreen M. Harris, NYSERDA President and CEO, noted, “NYSERDA is proud to work with ChargePoint to bring these fast chargers to Cortland, Waterloo, Lake Placid, Niagara Falls, and Ripley. This private-public investment will expand access to reliable public charging for a growing number of electric vehicle drivers while helping to reduce pollution and improve air quality across the state.” This aligns with New York’s goals to promote sustainability and equity.
The focus on disadvantaged communities ensures that EV benefits reach beyond affluent areas. By placing half of the stations in these regions, the program addresses equity in clean energy access. Drivers can learn more about NYSERDA’s EV funding at their official site. ChargePoint, founded in 2007, continues to lead with one of North America’s largest EV charging networks, supporting a cleaner, electric-powered future.
