Continental, a leading tire manufacturer, has solidified its position in the electric vehicle (EV) market by supplying tires to 18 of the world’s 20 highest-volume EV manufacturers in 2024. This achievement highlights the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality, efficient, and safe tire solutions tailored for electric vehicles. According to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), every fifth car sold worldwide is now electrically powered, emphasizing the growing importance of Continental’s role in this expanding sector.
Key Highlights:
- Continental supplies tires to 18 out of 20 top EV manufacturers globally.
- In each region (EMEA, Americas, APAC), they supply nine out of the top ten EV manufacturers.
- Electric vehicles require tires with low rolling resistance, quiet rolling noise, and high safety standards.
- Continental pioneered energy-efficient tires with the ContiEcoContact in 1993.
- The latest EcoContact 7 offers enhanced aerodynamics for better efficiency.
- An EV-Compatible logo marks tires optimized for electric vehicles since 2023.

In the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), the Americas (North, South, and Central America), and the APAC region (Asia-Pacific), Continental equips nine of the top ten EV manufacturers in each area. Prominent brands like BYD, Geely, Volkswagen, NIO, Mercedes-Benz, and Renault rely on Continental tires, reflecting widespread industry trust.
Electric vehicles pose unique challenges for tire design due to their heavier weight from batteries and instant torque, which increases wear. Their quiet operation also amplifies tire noise. Continental addresses these needs with tires designed for low rolling resistance to extend range, quiet rolling noise for comfort, and uncompromised safety.
Manja Greimeier, Head of Original Equipment at Continental Tires, stated, “The high level of trust placed in Continental original equipment tires by electric vehicle manufacturers worldwide confirms: We offer our customers an inspiring driving experience.”

Since introducing the ContiEcoContact in 1993, Continental has led in energy-efficient tire innovation. The seventh-generation EcoContact 7 features an “aerodimple” structure, inspired by golf balls, reducing air turbulence for improved aerodynamics and efficiency across vehicle types.
All Continental tire lines support various drive systems, with the EV-Compatible logo introduced in 2023 identifying tires optimized for EVs. This reinforces Continental’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
