The City of Dallas has taken a significant step forward in its Climate Action Plan by signing a multi-year agreement with Ford Pro to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This initiative aims to electrify the city’s fleet by 2040, integrating both advanced hardware and smart charging software.
Key Highlights:
- Goal: Electrify the City of Dallas fleet by 2040.
- Partnership: 10-year agreement with Ford Pro.
- Infrastructure: Installation of EV chargers at city worksites.
- Software: Use of Ford Pro smart charging software for optimal performance.
- Environmental Impact: Part of the Comprehensive Environmental & Climate Action Plan (CECAP).
The City of Dallas, a major metropolitan area, has chosen Ford Pro to advance its climate goals, focusing on improving air quality by transitioning to an electric vehicle fleet by 2040. Under this 10-year agreement, the city will deploy Ford Pro chargers at municipal worksites and utilize Ford Pro’s smart charging software to manage and customize EV charging operations. This integrated solution ensures that fleet vehicles are always charged and ready for use.
In 2020, Dallas approved a Comprehensive Environmental & Climate Action Plan (CECAP), which includes the installation of EV chargers throughout the city and the addition of light-duty EVs to its fleet of 5,400 vehicles. “The City of Dallas is committed to a clean, safe, and healthy environment, and we’re making great strides in our efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality,” said Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson. “This agreement with Ford Pro marks a significant milestone and will help our city avoid energy waste and save money on energy costs. We look forward to building upon our work with Ford Pro to further scale EV charging infrastructure and electrify our fleet operations to continue to serve our great city now and in the future.”
Ford Pro CEO Ted Cannis highlighted the importance of this collaboration. “EV adoption is on the rise with state and local government fleets, and we’re proud to provide smart charging software and hardware to help electrify one of the Lone Star State’s biggest cities in one of America’s biggest metro areas,” he said. “The impact software can have on EV charging can be substantial, helping public agencies like the City of Dallas not only manage charging infrastructure today, but help determine where chargers may be needed in the future.”
A Growing Trend in the Public Sector
State and local governments in the U.S. operate around four million vehicles. The federal government has set a goal for most federal vehicle purchases to be zero-emission vehicles by 2035, a trend likely to be mirrored by state and local governments. Ford Pro Charging already supports hundreds of local government customers. The shift towards EVs and high-quality charging infrastructure is driven by rising fuel costs and the potential for lower operational costs with EVs.
