DENZA, a premium brand under the BYD Group, has introduced the D9 DM-i plug-in hybrid MPV to the European market. The vehicle utilizes a Super Hybrid powertrain to provide 130 miles of pure-electric WLTP range and a total combined range of 590 miles.
Highlights
- Powertrain Architecture: A 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with dual electric motors producing a total system output of 353PS (260kW).
- High-Speed Charging: Equipped with 559kW FLASH Charging technology, allowing a 10% to 70% state-of-charge (SoC) increase in five minutes.
- Versatile Capacity: A three-row, seven-seat configuration offering variable trunk volumes ranging from 430 to 2,310 liters.

Strategic Expansion of Premium Hybrid MPVs
The introduction of the D9 DM-i signals a strategic move by BYD Group to capture the premium multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment in Europe. By offering a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with a substantial electric-only range, DENZA targets both urban family transport and long-distance executive travel.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The D9 DM-i utilizes the “Dual Mode Intelligent” (DM-i) all-wheel-drive system. This setup features a 58.5kWh Blade Battery and three electric motors.
- Acceleration: 0-62 mph in 8.6 seconds.
- Top Speed: 112 mph.
- Suspension: MacPherson-strut front and multi-link rear suspension with DiSus-C intelligent damping.
The DiSus-C system adjusts damping parameters in milliseconds to mitigate body roll or improve ride compliance based on road conditions.

Interior Technology and Connectivity
The cabin features a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen powered by DiLink software, supporting over-the-air updates and Google integration. The second row includes “zero-gravity” seats with 152° reclining, 16-point massage functions, and independent 12.8-inch multimedia screens.
A 16-speaker Devialet audio system provides six-zone voice recognition, allowing passengers in all three rows to access voice-control instructions. Connectivity is supported by four 50W wireless chargers and six USB ports.
Charging Efficiency in Extreme Conditions
The 800V-based FLASH Charging system is engineered for thermal resilience. In temperatures as low as -30°C, the system can charge the battery from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes. Specifically, the BYD Group technology aims to maximize efficiency on long-distance trips by enabling rapid mid-journey top-ups.
