Electreon, a leader in wireless electric vehicle charging, has announced a new project with Electra Afikim, one of Israel’s largest public transportation operators. This initiative will introduce Electreon’s innovative wireless charging technology to the Ovnat terminal in Petah Tikva, building on the success of a prior project at the Rosh Ha’Ayn bus depot launched in November 2023.

Key Highlights

  • Second major project between Electreon and Electra Afikim
  • Location: Ovnat terminal in Petah Tikva
  • Technology: Wireless charging for electric buses
  • Benefits: Increased driving range, cost savings, ease of charging
  • Initial phase: Planning, with intention to continue subject to budgetary approval
  • Future plans: Potential expansion to more buses and dynamic charging

Electreon’s wireless charging system is embedded underground at the bus terminal. It enables buses to charge automatically while parked or during short stops, such as when picking up or dropping off passengers. This “opportunity charging” model delivers multiple energy bursts throughout the day, extending the daily driving range of buses and supporting battery health. The system uses inductive technology, with a charging pad beneath the ground and a receiver on the bus, transferring energy wirelessly when aligned. This approach enhances convenience and reduces emissions by optimizing electric vehicle use.

By adopting this technology, Electra Afikim can lower electricity costs and reduce the need for lengthy charging sessions. It also supports the use of smaller batteries, cutting the overall cost of electric buses.

The Ovnat terminal, a vital transportation hub in Petah Tikva, is located near the Grand Mall and the city’s light rail station. Its strategic position makes it an ideal site for this advanced charging solution.

The current agreement focuses on planning, with full implementation pending budgetary approval. Electra Afikim aims to expand its electric bus fleet, and Electreon’s scalable system could enable dynamic, in-motion charging in the future. Oren Ezer, CEO of Electreon, noted, “A returning customer is the best proof of the immediate value of Electreon’s wireless charging solution. We thank Electra Afikim for their continued trust, and I believe that the advantages of wireless technology—increased driving range, cost savings, and the ease and convenience of charging—will drive further expansion of our activities both in Israel and internationally.”

Electreon, a global pioneer in wireless EV charging, operates projects in over eight countries. Its technology seeks to simplify charging and accelerate the shift to electric transportation.
