Electrify Commercial and Rocky Mountain Power Collaborate to Boost EV Infrastructure in Utah

What’s Happening

Electrify Commercial is entering into a partnership with Rocky Mountain Power, a division of PacificCorp, to bolster Utah’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the installation of 20 EV charging stations. The project is projected to comprise more than 80 individual chargers across 15 stations in Salt Lake City and an additional five stations in nearby areas. Electrify Commercial, a division of Electrify America, will be responsible for furnishing industry-leading charging equipment, installation services, networking, and ongoing operations and maintenance.

Why It Matters

The growth of EV usage is on an upward trajectory, making the need for increased access and reliable charging stations more vital than ever. This collaboration signals a shared commitment to EV adoption, reduction of tailpipe emissions, and improvement of air quality. It represents a significant milestone in EV infrastructure expansion and an optimistic step towards a greener future for Utah, already recognized as a leader in EV adoption with Salt Lake City being the top city in the U.S. for owning an electric vehicle.

Key Points

The charging stations, owned by Rocky Mountain Power, will be integrated into Electrify America’s “locate a charger” map. This map currently displays over 800 stations and 3,500 individual chargers. Each new station will host a minimum of four chargers capable of charging suitable vehicles at speeds of up to 350 kW, enhancing the convenience for EV drivers. Rocky Mountain Power will be in charge of pricing at these charging stations, with customers having the option to access and effortlessly pay for charging through the Electrify America mobile app.

Bottom Line

This alliance is a golden opportunity for companies like Rocky Mountain Power to own their charging stations while capitalizing on Electrify America’s expertise in building the largest open, DC-fast charging network in the U.S. It’s an essential step in expanding the crucial EV infrastructure that will support Utah’s projected growth. The first charging stations resulting from this collaboration are anticipated to be operational by 2024 in Salt Lake City, the Wasatch Valley Front, and Moab. With the increasing mainstream adoption of EVs, ventures like these are vital to facilitate seamless EV travel across the state and beyond.
