EVgo Inc. and General Motors have successfully surpassed 2,000 public fast charging stalls across the United States, marking a significant milestone in their ongoing collaboration to expand public fast-charging infrastructure. This achievement highlights the rapid growth in fast charging availability nationwide, offering convenient charging options for electric vehicle (EV) drivers, particularly in metropolitan areas with access to popular amenities like grocery stores and retail centers.
Key Highlights:
- The companies have built charging stalls in over 390 locations across 45 metropolitan markets and 32 states.
- The partnership aims to complete a total of 2,850 DC fast charging stalls, including 400 flagship locations in major metropolitan areas.
- The 2,000th stall opened in Murrieta, California, features 350kW fast chargers, capable of serving up to 10 vehicles simultaneously.
- Locations are chosen to support EV drivers without home or work charging options, such as renters and those in multifamily dwellings.
EVgo and GM have been working together to expand access to public charging in amenity-rich locations, ensuring convenience for EV drivers who may not have access to charging infrastructure at home or work. Their network now spans more than 390 locations across 32 states, providing reliable charging solutions in areas like grocery stores, city centers, and retail destinations.
The companies celebrated the opening of their 1,000th public fast charging stall in August 2023 in Woodbridge, Illinois, and have continued to expand at a rapid pace, doubling their footprint in just over a year. Their collaboration is well on its way to achieving the next target of 2,850 charging stalls, which includes 400 flagship stalls in key metropolitan markets, such as Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas.
The latest charging station in Murrieta, California, conveniently located off Interstate 215, offers a mix of amenities including retail shopping, coffee shops, and dining options, making it an ideal charging destination for travelers. This station was also supported by the California Energy Commission’s FAST program, which aims to fund and expand critical EV charging infrastructure.
Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, remarked on the achievement, stating, “EVgo’s longstanding collaboration with GM has helped us bring public charging to communities in more than 30 states across the U.S., and as we work to deploy our first flagship destinations next year, we are thrilled to celebrate today’s milestone of reaching 2,000 fast charging stalls built through this program.” He emphasized that working with trusted partners like GM has accelerated the network’s expansion, instilling range confidence in EV drivers.
Wade Sheffer, Vice President at GM Energy, added, “Our collaboration with EVgo underscores our dedication to providing EV drivers with the best possible experience by expanding fast charging infrastructure across the country. We look forward to continuing to offer premium charging experiences for years to come.”
This milestone signifies a major step forward in addressing the growing need for accessible and reliable fast-charging options for electric vehicles across the country, supporting the goal of increased EV adoption and a transition to a cleaner all-electric future.
