Ford and TXU Energy Partner for Free EV Charging

Ford Motor Company, in collaboration with TXU Energy, Texas’ leading retail electric provider, has launched the TXU Free EV Miles program. This initiative is the first of its kind, offering Ford EV customers the chance to charge their vehicles at home without cost during specified hours. Since over 80 percent of EV charging happens at home, this program has the potential to cover the entire cost of at-home charging for participants.

Key Highlights:

  • The TXU Free EV Miles program offers Ford EV owners bill credits for charging during off-peak hours, potentially covering all at-home charging costs.
  • The program is available to Ford’s electric SUV and truck customers in Texas, with free charging hours set between 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. the following day.
  • Ford aims to educate Texans on the benefits of driving electric vehicles while promoting grid stability by incentivizing off-peak charging.
  • Participants in the program will receive additional perks, including a $100 welcome bonus from Ford and a $250 bonus from TXU Energy for maintaining enrollment for a year.

The program encourages customers to charge during off-peak hours, helping to maintain grid reliability while promoting the use of clean energy. With the Preferred Charge Times feature available in the FordPass app or through the vehicle’s touchscreen, customers can easily schedule their charging sessions to align with the free hours provided by TXU Energy.

Bill Crider, senior director of global charging and energy services at Ford, stated, “Encouraging our electric vehicle customers to charge at off-peak hours through programs like Free EV Miles helps to save them money while supporting a more sustainable, resilient electrical grid.

The TXU Free EV Miles program is open to Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Escape Plugin Hybrid customers. Upon enrolling, customers will receive automatic rebates for at-home charging costs incurred during the free hours, along with the bonuses from Ford and TXU Energy.

Sam Sen, vice president of energy transition solutions for TXU Energy, emphasized the partnership’s role in advancing EV adoption, noting, “We are proud to support Ford’s Texas EV customers with flexible, free charging hours and the significant cost savings that come with it.

Enrollment in the program is now open to Ford and TXU Energy customers. For more details and eligibility requirements, visit TXU’s website.
