Volkswagen will unveil the ID.3 Neo, the successor to its electric compact hatchback, at a world premiere in mid-April. The rebranded model arrives with a new software generation that also brings updated features to the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7 lineups.
Highlights
- ID.3 Neo debuts with enhanced Travel Assist, traffic light detection, and One Pedal Driving
- Vehicle-to-Load capability allows all new ID. models to power external devices at up to 3.6 kW
- New entry-level drivetrain — the APP 350 motor (140 kW / 190 PS) boosts ID.4 range by up to 40 km (WLTP)
- Digital vehicle key and redesigned steering wheel buttons come standard across the updated lineup

Software and Feature Upgrades
The latest software generation introduces several functional upgrades across the ID. family. Travel Assist now includes traffic light detection. One Pedal Driving enables full regenerative braking to a complete stop.
All updated models receive the Innovision infotainment system. A new In-Car Shop app store allows owners to download apps for audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and gaming. Functions and services can be activated on a vehicle-specific basis.
A digital vehicle key is now available as an option for all models. It uses wireless communication similar to smartphone payment systems. No dedicated app is required. Additionally, physical buttons return to the steering wheel across future ID. models.
Vehicle-to-Load Capability
New ID. models can now power external devices directly from the high-voltage battery. The feature supports loads up to 3.6 kW through a 230 V interior socket. An optional adapter enables power delivery through the Mode 3 charging port.
Compatible devices include electric grills, coffee makers, and e-bikes.
Updated Drivetrain and Battery
The ID.4 Pure and ID.5 Pure entry-level models receive a new APP 350 drive system. The 140 kW (190 PS) motor delivers increased torque and lower energy consumption compared to the outgoing APP 310 unit.
Paired with a new 58 kWh net lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the updated ID.4 gains up to 40 km of WLTP range. Key specs for the entry-level models:
- ID.4 Pure — 16.0 kWh/100 km combined consumption
- ID.5 Pure — 15.6 kWh/100 km combined consumption
Regulatory Compliance
The updated software and hardware are designed to meet current and upcoming standards. These include Euro 7 emissions requirements, California’s ZEV3 standard, and the EU’s General Safety Regulation 2 (GSR2).
Kai Grünitz, Member of the Volkswagen Board of Management for Technical Development, said: “The new software generation brings more performance and an even better customer experience to the ID. models. The new Volkswagen electric models in the small and compact vehicle segments – ID. Polo, ID. Polo GTI, ID. Cross – will also soon be launched on the market with these new innovations, offering more flexibility in everyday life and for leisure activities.”
What’s Next
Volkswagen confirmed that the ID. Polo, ID. Polo GTI, and ID. Cross are also coming with the same software platform. All three remain near-production prototypes and are not yet available for sale.
