Gaussion, a University College London spinoff, has secured $12 million in funding to revolutionize battery charging technology. This Series A round, led by Autotech Ventures with support from BGF and UCL Technology Fund, aims to bring Gaussion’s groundbreaking magnetic enhancement technology to the market. This technology significantly enhances battery performance and charging speed without compromising cell integrity, offering a scalable solution for various energy storage applications.

Key Highlights

  • $12M Series A funding led by Autotech Ventures, with participation from BGF and UCL Technology Fund.
  • Gaussion’s technology uses an external magnetic field to steer ions within battery cells, enabling rapid charging and reducing cell degradation.
  • The funds will support Gaussion’s market entry and potential technology licensing.
  • Gaussion holds a global portfolio of patents related to its magnetic enhancement technology.
  • Applications include transportation electrification, residential and utility-scale energy storage, and more.

Gaussion’s innovative approach addresses one of the most pressing challenges in the electric vehicle (EV) industry—charging speed. Traditional electrochemical methods often lead to unpredictable results and can damage battery cells, hindering the mass adoption of EVs. By leveraging a magnetic field during charge and discharge cycles, Gaussion’s technology not only speeds up the charging process but also extends the life of the battery, making it a game-changer in the energy storage industry.

Gaussion’s approach aims to expand the solution space by introducing a new variable, rather than displacing or replacing existing technologies,” said Alexei Andreev, co-founder and managing director of Autotech Ventures. This technology offers significant opportunities across various markets without altering the core components of existing battery technologies.

The recent capital raise follows a £2.85 million seed round in 2022 and positions Gaussion to meet the growing demand for efficient and powerful energy storage systems. As the EV market continues to grow, Gaussion’s magnetic enhancement technology could play a crucial role in overcoming the challenges of electrification, ensuring that EVs can meet consumer expectations for fast and reliable charging.
