EnergyHub, a prominent provider of grid-edge flexibility solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with GM Energy, a division of General Motors. This collaboration integrates GM’s electric vehicles and home energy storage solutions into EnergyHub’s extensive network of utility and market programs across the United States. It enables eligible owners of Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac electric vehicles, as well as GM Energy’s PowerBank stationary storage system, to participate in EnergyHub-managed utility programs. These initiatives offer financial incentives to participants while enhancing grid reliability and reducing energy costs in their communities.

Key Highlights:

  • EnergyHub partners with GM Energy to integrate GM’s electric vehicles and home energy storage into utility grid programs.
  • Eligible GM EV owners and PowerBank users can earn financial incentives through participation.
  • Programs support grid reliability and help lower energy costs.
  • Enrollment for EV owners begins later this year through local utilities.
  • PowerBank home battery system aids grid during peak times.
  • EnergyHub’s platform manages demand and ensures grid stability.

This partnership leverages EnergyHub’s advanced Edge Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) platform, allowing utilities to manage a broader range of distributed energy resources (DERs), including GM’s EVs and PowerBank system. This integration supports the creation of virtual power plants (VPPs) that enhance grid flexibility and reliability.

Eligible Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac EV owners will soon enroll in EnergyHub programs through local utilities, enabling smart or managed charging to optimize charging schedules for grid stability without compromising mobility needs. Launched in 2024, the GM Energy PowerBank serves as a backup power source for homeowners and supports the grid during peak demand, offering additional financial benefits.

EnergyHub’s programs assist utilities in maintaining grid stability through demand response and dynamic load shaping, crucial for managing peak demand as EV adoption rises. Jeff Huron, Senior Manager of EV Strategy and Business Development at EnergyHub, noted, “Our partnership with GM is a significant step forward in expanding the reach and impact of our utility clients’ EV and stationary storage programs.”

EnergyHub, a subsidiary of Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM), supports over 80 utilities, managing more than 1.6 million DERs and 2 GW of flexible capacity.
