General Motors (GM) has kicked off 2025 with a strong performance in China, delivering over 442,000 vehicles in the first quarter alongside its joint ventures. This marks a notable year-on-year increase and the third consecutive quarter of growing market share. The surge is largely fueled by rising demand for GM’s electric and hybrid vehicles, positioning the company as a key player in China’s competitive automotive market.

Key Highlights:

  • 442,000+ vehicles delivered in Q1 2025
  • New energy vehicle (NEV) sales up 53.2% year-on-year
  • Buick GL8 family sold 24,000 units
  • Buick LaCrosse deliveries more than doubled
  • Buick Envision Plus sales more than tripled
  • Wuling Hong Guang MINIEV hit 87,000 units sold
  • Chevrolet Tahoe deliveries launched via the Durant Guild

GM’s success stems from its robust lineup of new energy vehicles (NEVs), which include battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). In Q1, NEV sales soared by 53.2% compared to last year. Looking ahead, GM plans to broaden its NEV offerings by adding extended range electric vehicles (EREVs) and ensuring every new vehicle launched in China in 2025 includes an NEV variant.

Buick shone brightly, with the Buick GL8 family selling 24,000 units and reinforcing its dominance in the premium multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment. The upcoming Buick GL8 Lu Shang, set for a Q2 debut with a PHEV option, will further expand this lineup. Meanwhile, Buick LaCrosse deliveries doubled, and Buick Envision Plus sales tripled. The Wuling Hong Guang MINIEV also thrived, selling 87,000 units, with its new four-door version driving over half of those sales.

GM’s premium import arm, the Durant Guild, began delivering the Chevrolet Tahoe in March, expanding its reach through new Experience Centers alongside existing Brand Centers. “Strong Q1 performance lays a solid foundation for sustainable, profitable growth in 2025,” said Steve Hill, GM’s senior VP and president of GM China.
