GM Ventures has invested $10 million in Forge Nano, a materials science company specializing in atomic layer deposition (ALD). This strategic partnership aims to enhance battery performance for General Motors’ electric vehicles by leveraging Forge Nano’s thin-film coating technology. The collaboration also includes prototype development at Forge Nano’s Colorado headquarters.
Key Highlights:
- $10 million investment by GM Ventures in Forge Nano.
- Collaboration focuses on atomic layer deposition for better battery performance.
- Forge Nano to build prototype lithium-ion battery cells at its Colorado facility.
- Investment aims to lower EV battery costs and enhance technology capabilities.
General Motors’ investment showcases its ongoing commitment to innovative battery technology to improve electric vehicle performance and reduce costs. Forge Nano will use its Atomic Armor technology to create coatings at an atomic scale, enhancing both battery material performance and cost efficiency. This partnership will also help Forge Nano expand its influence in semiconductor technology.
“GM Ventures’ primary goal is to bring disruptive technology into the GM ecosystem to improve products and processes,” said Anirvan Coomer, managing director of GM Ventures. “Forge Nano’s Atomic Armor technology has game-changing potential for our battery materials. They have already demonstrated the ability to expand cathode capabilities, which is the most expensive battery cell component. This could unlock benefits for both customers and the business.”
“Forge Nano’s mission is to make better materials for a better world,” said Paul Lichty, CEO of Forge Nano. “General Motors’ investment will allow us to further enhance battery material performance and durability, while allowing us to expand our footprint in other key areas – like semiconductors. We look forward to working closely with GM to enhance battery cell performance for future electric vehicles.”
General Motors continues to leverage advanced technology to build a safer, smarter, and lower-emission future, with a focus on making EVs more accessible to all buyers.
