What’s Happening
GreenPower Motor Company, a prominent manufacturer of all-electric, zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles, has revealed the EV Star Utility during the ACT Expo. This all-electric, all-aluminum utility stake bed truck is built on GreenPower’s EV Star Cab & Chassis, catering to vocational applications such as landscaping, construction, agriculture, and public works.
Why It Matters
The EV Star Utility is designed to address the supply and demand issue in the electric medium and heavy-duty vehicle market, which has traditionally been dominated by fuel-consuming, carbon-emitting vehicles. GreenPower aims to offer cleaner, more efficient vehicles while providing a one-stop, zero-emission solution that reduces operating costs.
Key Points
Constructed by Lion Truck Body, the EV Star Utility boasts a payload capacity of up to 5,740 pounds, a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 14,300 pounds, and a range of up to 150 miles. Its innovative aluminum “T” flooring ensures a watertight, anti-skid, and washable interior. The EV Star platform features a 118 kWh battery pack and supports charging at up to 19.2 kW on a standard Level 2 J1772 protocol or 60 kW via a DC fast charge.
The EV Star Utility is the second vehicle application built on the EV Star Cab & Chassis, following the EV Star Refrigerated Box Truck. This platform accommodates various mid and last-mile delivery needs while maintaining the benefits of a zero-emission vehicle.
Bottom Line
GreenPower’s purpose-built, all-electric commercial vehicles, including the new EV Star Utility and EV Star Refrigerated Box Truck, qualify for up to $40,000 in tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act. They are also eligible for the New Jersey ZIP program, which launched in April with $90 million in funding. By introducing the EV Star Utility, GreenPower continues to push the envelope in creating environmentally friendly vehicles for a diverse range of applications.
