Enhanced Hybrid Capabilities

The next-generation e:HEV system introduces a seamless transition between three driving modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive, optimizing efficiency for various driving scenarios. These advancements are powered by newly developed engines and drive units, which feature an integrated cooling system to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

By expanding the engine’s efficient operating range and improving power conversion in all driving modes, Honda aims to deliver a best-in-class combustion efficiency for both its 1.5L and 2.0L hybrid systems. The system’s enhanced Engine Drive Mode increases torque transmission efficiency and extends high-speed cruising efficiency using battery assistance.

Innovations in Design and Performance

Honda’s Next-generation Mid-size Platform introduces a lightweight structure, reducing platform weight by approximately 90 kilograms compared to current models. This modular architecture improves production efficiency and enables the creation of diverse models with greater commonality, achieving a 60% parts-sharing ratio across models.

Additionally, the Honda S+ Shift system enhances driving engagement by offering direct drive response and precise RPM control. The system will debut with the all-new Honda Prelude in 2025, further emphasizing Honda’s commitment to delivering exhilarating driving experiences.

Focus on Business Viability

Honda has made significant strides in reducing production costs for hybrid vehicles. Collaborative efforts with suppliers and the adoption of local production systems have resulted in a 25% cost reduction for current North American Accord hybrids compared to 2018 models. For next-generation hybrids, Honda plans to halve costs by 2027, ensuring high profitability and competitiveness.

The e:HEV system remains central to Honda’s electrification strategy, embodying its mission to energize mobility and provide environmentally sustainable solutions. As the automotive industry transitions toward electrification, Honda continues to position itself as a leader in hybrid-electric innovation.
