Hyundai ELEXIO Earns Five-Star ANCAP Safety Rating

Hyundai's all-new ELEXIO electric midsize SUV earned a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating, demonstrating strong occupant protection and comprehensive standard SmartSense active safety technology.

Hyundai Motor Company’s all-new ELEXIO electric midsize SUV has earned a maximum five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). The independent authority tests vehicles under protocols aligned with Euro NCAP standards. These are widely regarded as among the most rigorous safety evaluation frameworks in the industry. As a result, the rating highlights the ELEXIO’s strong occupant protection and advanced active safety systems.

Highlights

  • The Hyundai ELEXIO achieved a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating under the program’s 2023–2025 assessment criteria.
  • Standard Hyundai SmartSense technology includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist.
  • A 720-degree armored body structure with 77.5% high-strength steel content provides exceptional crash protection.
  • The SUV demonstrated strong results across adult, child, and vulnerable road user protection categories.

Standard SmartSense Safety Features

The ELEXIO’s safety performance builds on a comprehensive suite of standard Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance technologies. Every variant includes the following systems:

  • Nine airbags — including a front center airbag and extended side curtain airbags
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2.0 (FCA 2.0) — detects vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and powered two-wheelers with braking intervention in complex scenarios
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) — provides steering support to maintain stable lane positioning
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) — delivers rear-side detection with driver alerts and braking intervention during lane changes
  • Family Brake Mode — a tuned braking and suspension system engineered for enhanced stability, comfort, and driver confidence

Advanced Body Structure

Hyundai engineered the ELEXIO with a 720-degree armored body structure. It features 77.5% high-strength steel content. This design is specifically optimized for occupant protection in frontal and side-impact scenarios.

ANCAP Test Performance

Under ANCAP’s independent evaluation, the ELEXIO delivered strong results across all four assessment categories:

  • Adult Occupant Protection — effective structural integrity in frontal and side-impact tests, with a center airbag to reduce occupant interaction
  • Child Occupant Protection — “Good” protection ratings for 6- and 10-year-old child dummies, with ISOFix and top tether anchorages across rear seats
  • Vulnerable Road User Protection — effective detection and response to pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, including in complex turning situations
  • Safety Assist — autonomous emergency braking, lane support, and speed assistance systems performed strongly across critical test scenarios

Rating Applicability

The five-star rating applies to all ELEXIO variants with build dates from October 2025 onward. Additionally, it covers vehicles with sale dates in Australia from February 2026 onward.

The rating reinforces Hyundai Motor’s commitment to delivering advanced safety technologies across its expanding electric vehicle lineup.
