Jaguar I-Pace Battery Recall Alert

In a proactive move to ensure customer safety, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is initiating a recall for certain 2019 I-Pace vehicles due to a potential risk posed by the high-voltage battery overheating. This recall, identified by NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V183000, involves an estimated 258 units that might be affected by an electrical system component flaw. This condition increases the risk of a fire, prompting immediate action from the manufacturer.

Key Highlights:

  • Recall Focus: High-voltage battery overheating
  • Affected Model: 2019 Jaguar I-Pace
  • Units Impacted: 258
  • Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
  • Safety Risk: Elevated risk of fire

The core of the recall lies in the high-voltage battery’s tendency to overheat, significantly raising the fire risk. These vehicles were previously subject to recall under 23V-369 but now require a new remedy to fully mitigate the risk. Jaguar is currently developing this remedy. In the meantime, vehicle owners are strongly advised to park and charge their vehicles outdoors, away from structures, and limit the charge to a maximum of 75% to minimize risks until the recall repair is executed.

Preventive Measures and Owner Guidance:

Owners will receive notification letters by April 26, 2024, with detailed instructions. Jaguar has also provided a customer service number (1-800-452-4827) and a recall number (H484) for owners to seek further information. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers resources through their Vehicle Safety Hotline.

This recall stems from an identified defect in battery packs manufactured between March 1, 2018, and May 31, 2018, which are prone to short circuits leading to thermal overload. Jaguar Land Rover emphasizes the safety of its customers and urges affected vehicle owners to adhere to the interim measures until a permanent solution is implemented.

For a comprehensive understanding, Jaguar Land Rover has detailed the production dates, VIN range, and component specifics involved in this recall, alongside the preliminary remedy program, aiming to reconnect affected vehicles to the Remote InControl system for better monitoring and control over the charging process.

This recall underscores Jaguar Land Rover’s commitment to customer safety and the swift actions taken to address potential hazards. Owners of the affected models should promptly follow the recommended precautions and stay informed on the development of the permanent remedy.
