JLR plans to add a full hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) option across its Range Rover and Defender brands and is sharpening its focus on North America to drive double-digit revenue growth, reaffirming an £18 billion ($24.2 billion) investment commitment through FY29. Chief Executive Officer PB Balaji outlined the next delivery phase of the Reimagine strategy in an investor update at the company’s headquarters in Gaydon, UK. The plan leans on JLR’s “House of Brands” structure to serve distinct customer segments, with the new HEV joining existing mild-hybrid (MHEV), plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (BEV) options. JLR is targeting medium-term double-digit revenue growth and says the U.S. is now its priority growth region.

Propulsion Flexibility Across the House of Brands
The update extends propulsion choice across JLR’s four brands, with the full HEV described as a new addition to a lineup that already spans mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric power. The table below summarizes where each brand sits and where the new options are planned.
| Brand | Propulsion Choices | Built At |
|---|---|---|
| Range Rover & Range Rover Sport | MHEV, PHEV, BEV | Solihull, UK (MLA) |
| Range Rover (EMA model) | BEV, plus planned HEV | Halewood, UK (EMA) |
| Defender (new EMA model) | BEV, plus planned HEV | Nitra, Slovakia (current 90/110/130) |
| Jaguar (Type 01) | BEV only | Solihull, UK |
Range Rover
Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, built at Solihull, will stay on the modular longitudinal architecture (MLA) offering MHEV, PHEV and full BEV power, with Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric due later this year. JLR also plans to reveal its first model on the Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), built at Halewood, from the Range Rover brand later this year, and that model is planned to add a full HEV option in future.
Defender
The Defender lineup currently spans the 90, 110 and 130, built at Nitra, Slovakia, and is the brand JLR calls its best seller. A new Defender has been confirmed as the second vehicle on the EMA platform and will offer HEV alongside BEV. JLR has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Stellantis to explore product and technology development in the U.S., and said it will center that collaboration on the Defender brand to pursue American growth.
Discovery
Discovery, which the company credits with creating the family SUV segment more than 35 years ago, will gain propulsion flexibility as well. JLR says more than 2 million have been sold since 1989 but has not yet confirmed specific plans for the brand.
Jaguar
Jaguar will become JLR’s only fully electric brand, built at Solihull as part of the company’s House of Brands approach. Its four-door GT, the Type 01, is due to be revealed later this year.
Why Is JLR Focusing on North America?
JLR named the U.S. its biggest market and a priority growth region alongside the UK, Europe and China, citing rising luxury demand.
“To truly manifest the power of our brands, we will increase our focus on North America, our biggest market… Our aspiration, in the coming years, is to grow our US business to the size of the entire JLR business as it exists today,” Balaji said.
The company added that it would continue to invest in India and the Middle East.
Cutting Costs to Lower the Breakeven Point
JLR set out a program of “Enterprise Missions” targeting £1.7 billion ($2.3 billion) in savings across material costs, warranty and fixed costs, aiming to return its breakeven volume toward 300,000 vehicles within two years. The company said it also plans to build resilience through diversified sourcing and an AI-enabled digital operation.
