Kia EV2 Gains UK Electric Car Grant Eligibility

Kia's EV2 'First Edition' has qualified for the UK Government's £1,500 Electric Car Grant, cutting its on-the-road price to £26,995. Kia now offers 10 ECG-eligible variants across four EV model lines.

The Kia EV2 ‘First Edition’ is now eligible for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG), reducing its on-the-road price by £1,500 (approximately $2,019). The confirmation brings Kia’s total ECG-qualified lineup to four models, with the EV2 joining the EV3, EV4, and PV5 Passenger in the scheme. Order books are open now, with first UK deliveries expected later in 2026.

EV2 ‘First Edition’ Pricing and Specification

The EV2 ‘First Edition’ serves as the first EV2 variant to reach the UK market and is built exclusively for Europe. With the £1,500 ECG applied, its on-the-road price falls to £26,995 (approximately $36,328), down from the standard £28,495 (~$38,350).

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound System, wireless charging, advanced driver assistance technologies, and a 15-liter front storage compartment. Power comes from a 42.2 kWh Standard Range battery. Kia quotes a WLTP combined range of 190 miles, though real-world range will vary with driving style, speed, temperature, and other conditions. DC fast charging supports a 10–80% charge in approximately 29 minutes.

The £1,500 ECG replaces an equivalent ‘Kia EV2 Reservation Saving’ that was introduced for ‘First Edition’ orders on April 1 as part of the brand’s quarterly offers. A key distinction: the ECG applies to both retail and fleet customers, while the previous reservation saving was available to retail buyers only.

Other EV2 Variants

The EV2 ‘Air’, ‘GT-Line’, and ‘GT-Line S’ remain outside the ECG scheme for now. Those trims carry a separate £3,750 (~$5,048) ‘Kia EV2 Reservation Saving,’ available to retail customers placing a nonbinding reservation between April 1 and June 30, 2026. Kia indicated ECG eligibility for those derivatives may follow later in the year, pending approval.

Electric Car Grant Criteria

The UK Government’s ECG is limited to electric vehicles meeting strict criteria covering emissions, range, sustainability, and warranty support. A central requirement is that the manufacturer hold Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) verification — a third-party framework that sets greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets consistent with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C — and commit to net-zero emissions by 2050 at the latest. Several other manufacturers, including Hyundai UK, have confirmed ECG eligibility for their EV lineups under the same framework in recent months.
