LiveWire Acquires Dust Moto, Enters Electric Off-Road

LiveWire Group has acquired the assets of Oregon-based electric dirt bike startup Dust Moto, marking its first acquisition and entry into the electric off-road motorcycle segment.

LiveWire Group, Inc. (NYSE: LVWR) has acquired the assets of Oregon-based electric dirt bike startup Dust Moto, marking its first acquisition and entry into the electric off-road segment. The Milwaukee-based company, whose majority stockholder is Harley-Davidson, said the deal expands its product portfolio beyond on-road electric motorcycles and will accelerate development of Dust’s dirt bike platform toward production. LiveWire plans to share additional product launch details in the second half of 2026.

Highlights

  • LiveWire’s first-ever acquisition, expanding its electric two-wheel portfolio into the off-road category
  • Dust Moto’s electric dirt bike platform will be advanced toward production using LiveWire’s engineering, manufacturing, and global sales and service network
  • Dust Moto CEO Colin Godby will continue with the combined business
  • Product launch details expected in the second half of 2026

A First Acquisition for the Harley-Davidson-Backed EV Brand

The transaction is the first acquisition in LiveWire’s history and extends a strategy the company has framed as a broader push into electric powersports rather than on-road motorcycles alone. LiveWire said the move addresses what it characterized as a rapidly expanding electric off-road market, citing rider demand for high torque, reduced noise, lower maintenance, and the simpler operation of single-speed electric drivetrains.

LiveWire CEO Karim Donnez positioned the deal as a continuation of the company’s expansion beyond its core on-road lineup, which includes the S2 Del Mar, S2 Mulholland, and S2 Alpinista models.

“LiveWire pioneered the on-road electric motorcycle market, and this acquisition allows us to build on that leadership as we expand into off-road, continuing the journey that began with STACYC ten years ago,” Donnez said. “Dust Moto is a strong strategic fit and an accelerator of our vision, bringing proven off-road insight that will contribute meaningfully to LiveWire’s leadership position in electric powersports.”

Dust Moto’s Platform Moves Toward Production

With the transaction closed, LiveWire said it will advance Dust’s electric dirt bike platform toward production using its engineering capabilities, manufacturing scale, and global marketing, sales, and service network. The company said the combination is intended to accelerate both development and go-to-market execution.

Dust Moto CEO Colin Godby framed the deal as a strategic next step for the startup, which launched with the intention of offering an affordable, high-performance electric dirt bike in the U.S. market.

“Joining LiveWire marks an exciting next chapter in our journey,” Godby said. “LiveWire shares our fundamental DNA as an American brand focused on performance, innovation, and putting riders first. With LiveWire’s scale, resources, and global reach, we can bring our electric off-road bike to market with a worldwide audience and deliver an unmatched off-road experience.”

Expanding the Addressable Market

LiveWire said the acquisition reflects continued focus on expanding both its product portfolio and addressable market across electric powersports. The company did not disclose financial terms of the transaction. Additional product launch information is expected in the second half of 2026.
