Lucid, Nuro, Uber Reveal Robotaxi at CES 2026

Lucid, Nuro, and Uber unveiled their production intent robotaxi at CES 2026, with autonomous testing underway and San Francisco Bay Area service launch planned for later this year.

Lucid Group, Nuro, and Uber unveiled their production intent robotaxi at the Consumer Electronics Show 2026, marking a significant step toward the planned launch of their joint autonomous ridehail service in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year.

Highlights

  • Autonomous on-road testing began in December 2025, with Nuro leading supervised validation using engineering prototypes in the Bay Area
  • The robotaxi platform is based on the Lucid Gravity SUV, featuring a next-generation sensor array with solid-state lidar, high-resolution cameras, and radar
  • NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor provides the compute backbone, enabling real-time AI processing for Level 4 autonomous operation
  • Production is expected to begin at Lucid’s Arizona factory later in 2026, pending final validation

Sensor Architecture and Vehicle Design

The robotaxi features a 360-degree perception system integrating multiple sensor modalities throughout the Lucid Gravity body and a purpose-built roof-mounted module called the “halo.”

The sensor suite includes:

  • High-resolution cameras for visual perception
  • Solid-state lidar sensors for precise distance measurement
  • Radar systems for all-weather object detection

The halo module incorporates integrated LEDs that serve multiple functions, including vehicle identification for riders, display of rider initials, and real-time status updates throughout the pickup and dropoff process.

In-Cabin Experience and Capacity

The interior accommodates up to six passengers with configurations designed for group travel and generous luggage space. Uber designed the in-cabin rider experience, which builds on the Lucid Gravity’s existing interior architecture.

Interactive screens allow passengers to control:

  • Climate settings including heated seats
  • Music selection
  • Support contact options
  • Pull-over requests

A real-time visualization system displays what the robotaxi perceives and its planned trajectory, including maneuvers such as pedestrian yielding, traffic light responses, lane changes, and passenger dropoff procedures.

Autonomy Stack and Validation Framework

Nuro’s Level 4 autonomy system powers the robotaxi, built on what the company describes as an end-to-end AI foundation model that combines machine learning with verifiable safety logic.

The validation program evaluates capabilities across the full autonomy stack through three testing methodologies:

  • On-road testing with autonomous vehicle operators
  • Closed-course testing for controlled scenario evaluation
  • Simulation for validating performance across edge cases

“The debut of our production intent robotaxi with Lucid and Uber is a significant milestone on our path to delivering autonomy at scale,” said Dave Ferguson, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Nuro. “By bringing together Nuro’s proven level 4 autonomy, Lucid’s advanced vehicle architecture, and Uber’s global reach, we’re building a robotaxi service designed for real-world operations and long-term growth.”

Compute Platform

The robotaxi runs on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor, part of the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion platform. This high-performance compute system handles the real-time AI processing and system integration requirements for advanced autonomous driving operations.

Production Timeline and Public Display

Pending completion of the validation program, production is scheduled to begin at Lucid’s vertically integrated manufacturing facility in Arizona later this year.

The robotaxi is on public display at NVIDIA’s CES showcase at the Fontainebleau Hotel from January 5 through January 8, 2026.
