UK-based company Lunaz has debuted the world’s first electrified open-air Range Rover Safari, inspired by the model featured in the 1983 James Bond film “Octopussy.” This unique vehicle is the result of over 5,000 hours of intricate design and development.

Lunaz has completely reimagined this classic Range Rover. This ‘Safari’ model features a significantly reinforced body and chassis to create a solid base for the upgraded electric powertrain. Despite the structural revisions, the vehicle’s exterior appearance remains true to the original design.

A focal point of this commission was the car’s interior design. It now features significant improvements – both ergonomically and technologically – when compared to the original spartan style. Key to this transformation is a Lunaz-designed 3D printed composite center console housing a modern infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

“Lunaz has become known for elevating the most beautiful and elegant classic cars in history. With this Range Rover, we’re doing something different. We’re showing that our incredibly detailed and exacting approach can be applied to more playful icons, so they can be enjoyed for their own sake. I believe that this stunning electrified restomod captures this perfectly, elevating the Range Rover Classic to a place that perfectly marries its utility with a contemporary and precisely executed new interior and exterior design treatment,” said David Lorenz, Founder of Lunaz.

The 280kW powertrain offers substantial improvement over the original V8, producing 375 bhp and notably, zero emissions. This ‘Safari’ Range Rover also features upgrades like adjustable dampers, bespoke springs, and regenerative braking that complement the additional torque supplied by the electric motor.

Lunaz remains committed to sustainability. For them, repurposing classic cars offers a positive future in which environmentally-conscious choices don’t eliminate joy or historical appreciation. Lunaz’s approach allows these automotive icons to seamlessly blend into the world of modern electric vehicles.
